    windows 7

i thought he said he could see the chrome icon showing a running process. that's got me thinking the lower left start object may be 'live' but just can't see.

also, did he try hitting the Windows Key on the Keyboard? might work in tablet mode.... get the menu

He has dual video and that is risky in/of itself in windows 10.
there is therefore a reasonable chance that wupdate updated either/both driver last night. one clobbered the other.
unfortunately the blocking [driver] function in windows 10 is also broken. will not prevent such from happening [have posted on that one looking for help]

Yeah you could be right, he also said when he tried rebooting, all he had was a black screen. But, don't think it matters much now, he hasn't answered any posts for a few hours. Maybe he is reinstalling....who knows.

Any of this thread-participants could be right or wrong, point is,we made our assumptions and OP has not replied once with a single step taken.
I'll stick to my plan A,the machine must be proven as operational,OS can be fixed later on by a number of steps.
