    Laptop screen black and unresponsive

I downloaded windows 10 and all had been running smoothly, however, when I turned my laptop on this morning my background was black and about 20 new icons had appeared on the desktop all of which were just white and blank, i normally only have rhe recycle bin. i tried to run things but nothing worked, i also couldnt get the start menu up, I've tried restarting but it isn't doing anything.
    any help would be great

Hi, could you clarify 'isn't doing anything'? I.e. do you ever see anything on your display or disk activity indicator?

Do you have a Win 10 bootable disk, and is your BIOS set to boot from one? If so, can you get to safe mode using that disk? E.g.
How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 or 10 (The Easy Way)

Do you have a bootable partition manager disk, so you can have a quick look at your HDD and make sure you can access it?

My guess is- only a guess- you might have installed sthg that conflicts with Win 10. Otherwise, you have some form of failure or corruption.

Do you have any disk images (e.g. from Macrium Reflect, Aomei Backupper etc etc)? If you have, and you have the bootable CD, you can revert to your last good image. (assuming no hardware failure). If you haven't, you are in a more difficult place.

Hi Clusterhead- I thought it was necessary to have started normally to do that? In this case that's not possible, apparently.
