    Sorry, my mistake! I mean
    chkdsk D: /check

You don't have to find any osdevice! It's (D:)
I believe that the Recovery boots from (E:)

Whith a corrupt BCD it would not be possible to to boot into the Recovery

make sure that the LAN-Cable is connected
    run cmd X:>
    Wpeutil InitializeNetwork
    Wpeutil DisableFirewall
    mkdir D:\scratch
    Dism /image:D:\ /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /ScratchDir:D:\scratch

    What does
    dir E:\Recovery\WindowsRE /a /s
    show?

Pentagon, what is PE? I'm assuming that's what I need a network cable for. In order for me to connect the pc to a network I'm going to need to go buy a 50 / 75 foot cat 6 rj-45 cable.

Unfortunately I have a bunch of appointments this afternoon and this evening. I'll get to the chkdsk, dir on E: and dism later this evening.

Freebooter, I've already tried that, see my reply to Pentagon roughly 15 hours ago that starts with 'I'm getting 'Windows Resource Protection Could Not Start The Repair Service'

PE is when you boot into the Recovery-Mode. (RE) RE is a modified PE.
X:\Windows\system32> indicates that you are in PE

    X:\Windows\system32>dir E:\Recovery\WindowsRE /a /s

    Output as requested

    Pentagon,
    Chkdsk of D: fails with:

The Type of file system is NTFS
The Specified object was not found
A snapshot error occurred while scanning this drive. Run an offline scan and fix.
Failure to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 6

Could this have anything to do with the volume being labeled D? When the machine was running this was my C drive. When the issue 1st started I was able to run a chkdsk on the volume successfully. I can from a command prompt go to D: and as you know from last night able to run something from it.

    DISM fails as well:

    DISM
    Version 10.0.19041.1
    Error 0x80029c4a
The DISM log file can be found at x:\windows\logs\dism\dism.log

    I've attached:
    Directory of E:\Recovery\windowsRE
    DISM.log
    Directory of D:\Windows\System32
The results of the SFC I did last night - sfc-5-16.txt

Important: When you are in PE/RE-Mode the drive-letters can change! So don't worry about that!
    (D:) is your OS-Partition!
Your Recovery is on (E:) and you boot from there.
    Directory of E:\Recovery\windowsRE
    ..
    12/07/2019 01:08 AM 3,170,304 boot.sdi
    05/14/2024 01:21 PM 1,109 ReAgent.xml
    09/15/2020 03:18 PM 473,331,949 Winre.wim (no updates since 4 years!)

and all that confusion is only there because your labeling is awful!
    run

    X:>CHKDSK D: /offlinescanandfix

Yesterday you told me that you have to buy a LAN-Cable first! So why did you run the DISM-Command?
I told you not to do it!

    chkdsk results

    Pentagon,
After you retire from a lengthy career in IT your hunger for new knowledge does not subside. The other thing that never goes away is being suspicious of what someone says, especially if based on your antiquated experience it doesn't make sense. Executing a utility to correct an O/S issue needing to be connected to a network does not make sense. I realize my experience is from an environment that no longer exists but when someone tells you to do something that doesn't make sense, you ask why, don't get an answer and what the person is telling you to do can potentially allow someone access to your environment you're probably going to shy away from doing it.

With that in mind I could probably cobble a number of RJ-45 cables together and reach my switch. I have no problem reading an article on why DISM needs NW connectivity to work. I also have a Windows 10 ISO, As you can see by my attaching files from the crippled machine & do have access to my DVD drive

Attached are the results of the chkdsk. It looks like it ran clean

I believe I am only allowed to upload 5 files. The results of the chkdsk was file 5. Please let me know if you've captured the information off of the files so I can delete them and attach more as needed

    CHKDSK looks good!
DISM /resorehealth connects to MS-Server and fixes files if they are corrupt or damaged.
WiFi is not possible in PE/RE!

YES, that is possible. The problem is that the right install.wim index is needed and the dism-command is very complicated,

    s.th. like this: Dism /image:K:\ /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:L:\sources\install.wim /ScratchDir:K:\scratch

Make it easy! Use a LAN-Cable!
If you know how to make a WinRE.wim WiFi-Ready, you can do so and try
