    I "monkey around" with only one device (W11) which has no important anything in it. My important files are in the other PC (W10) which I use for important computing, like office stuff and banking. So, I use my two devices differently: (1) PC with W11 is for learning (and tweaking) and fun computing (2) PC with W10 is for important computing and is seldom, if at all, tweaked. And maybe that's the reason it runs faster.

    If you do not use third party backup imaging these are some other options to have steps in case there are problems related to the operating system or registry:

    I rely heavily on System Restore when I cannot rectify system unstable behavior. But twice, with W10 (I have yet to experience it with W11) the virus induced unstability was not corrected by System Restore because it was disabled by the virus. I had to reset to normalize and get rid of the malware.

    I saw where you mentioned that 3rd party backup software is too complicated.
    Have you tried AOMEI Backupper Standard?

    It's probably the simplest of the bunch.

    I thought I have tried it but I do not remember the black characters with formulas. So maybe I have not. As long as Backup and Restore (W7) is operative, I will not try any third party service. Actually, I have not had any problem with both W10 and W11 until MS upgraded my W10 to W11 without my consent.

    That's not a great plan since that software is deprecated. I've found Reflect very reliable.

    @coolnewyorker

    It's an Illusion that WIN 10 is faster and only the facts count. I don't know how it is when you play your "Bubble Game" or whatever you do, when you measure the I/O-Performance WIN 11 is appr. 5 % faster. Measured on a HP Z440 Workstation with 256 GB RAM. Total I/O load on NVMe-Disk for temp-files: 94.276 GB (ninetyfourthousand !)
    The Nastran-Job on WIN 10 was finished after 172,8 hours and on WIN 11 after 164 hours! The same machine running Linux: 30 % faster! That is cool! Mr. Cool-NewYorker!

    I never used Backup and Restore (W7). But I believe that it uses wbadmin.exe as basic.
    If that is deprecated, every other command is deprecated as well! sfc.exe, reagentc.exe, dism.exe, ....

    Recently I accidently installed WIN 11 on an old (2011) Latitude E5510 and run the wbadmin-test. I mounted the VMDX, assigned a drive-letter, made 2 small Registry_Mods, createde the BCD-Entry and booted from an external USB-Disk.
    Original 1.0 Windows on (D:) ==> wbadmin target on (G:) (USB) ==> boot from USB (G:) ==> running the backup as (C:) now!

    Here's a list of all the deprecated features in Windows 10...

    And scrolling down that list... here's what Microsoft says about... Backup and Restore (W7)...

    The problem is not whether is functions right now. The problem is that down the road... an update may just turn it off or remove it entirely. Then... if you need it, it won't be there.

    I have problems with Macrium - from installiation to restoration of backed-up files. This thread, with all the responses from forum members of gurus and advanced users levels, made me realize very clearly that I am not equipped technically to keep abreast with computing progress. That's why I am a bit pissed with MS for fooling around with my PC without my consent. How can anyone just "silently" upgrade anyone's property without owners' consent, with impunity?

    I read the whole post and tutorial and not unexpectedly, it is beyond my capacity to understand. Too complicated! I am now resigned to just accept W11 if I am again silently upgraded.
