    Lagging File Explorer

I seem to have done something in file explorer on my desktop that I did not on my laptop. When I click on any hard drive or large folder, the search bar takes forever to show the files. This used to happen in W7 and continues to do so in W10. I have tried to find where to change the settings with no results. Can someone, please, help? TIA.

Does this happen with every folder, or only folders with pictures and videos?

    Hardware Issues?

    How old is your HDD?

If it is starting to fail (e.g. developing dodgy blocks/sectors) you can experience long delays when you try to access files on it.

Regardless of its age, I would suggest that you immediately backup your:
    • Personal files
    • Driver installers
    • Program installers and keys

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think age of HD has anything to do with it. I have three hard drives in my desktop, a couple of external HDs and an NAS with two HDs. It happens on any of them. The laptop is connected to the same NAS and I don't get the lag there.

I feel certain there is a setting issue on the desktop.

Indeed, I recall this issue, pretty annoying one. I think it might be related to Map Network Drive?
I stopped using default Windows Explorer, because it always does, what it wants.
You could stop file sharing services, if you do not use an inbuilt file sharing.
Run this via CMD as admin and then restart the computer.
