    Java Quetion, Please ?

    Hello,

Have a program I want to run, but it says that I need to "Enable" Java Script.

Know nothing about Java, and/or Java Script.

Do I likely have it already on my pc (running W10), or more likely have to download the complete Java package ?
    If so, from where ?

Or, do I perhaps just have to "enable" it ? If so, how ?

Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Much thanks,
    Bob

Hi, as you mention program support- i.e. a program you have installed that requires it - download Java and install it here:
    https://www.java.com/download/ie_manual.jsp

I don't see it in Win 10's (rather poor) start menu, but I do in my Open Shell (free) start menu.

Win key s (or taskbar search) =>

Java and JavaScript are two different things.

Javascript is part of your Web browser.
    In Edge
Settings > Cookies and site permissions > All permissions > JavaScript > Allowed (recommended).
    In Chrome
Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Content > JavaScript > <> Sites can use JavaScript.

Very unlikely you will need Java, some rare program/application may require it.

Java folder does appear in Windows 10 Start.

Javascript is a type of code that uses Java moves. This is why you could literally chim in C or ASM within
HTML and execute whatever code you want to. Make your website look animated and alive without flash.
In fact this was the norm back in the early 1990's via the internet all the way until FLASH came along.

However. All forms of Java ( code execution ) in any web-browser is usually called "Java-script" to make things
simplier to understand. Any script or any coding language ( Javascript, Java, HTML5, C, ASM, Swift, SSL, That colorful font code I forget the name of ) are all considered "Scripts" or even "Javascript", and can be blocked, turned off or on
    when you need to.

If your "program" is requesting to "turn on javascript". It could mean two things.

    1. It is launching via a browser window.
    2. Itself is looking for something that is missing in your current operating system.

Installing Java might not work but again

Like others have said, just go into your browser and enable "Javascript".

Many web site, like my own, depend on Javascript to display certain data. For example, on my web site, www.k7mem.com, I use Javascript to extract user entered data, do various calculations, and draw diagrams (schematics). Except for a few images, all of my pictures are drawn dynamically with Javascript, when the page loads. On many of my pages drawings can be annotated dynamically as the user changes input parameters.

I developed this drawing library, because I got tired of other developers, stealing my pictures and using them on their sites. A description of my drawing library can be seen at www.k7mem.com/Sym_Lib.html.

If you don't have Javascript turned on, when visiting my web site, there probably won't be any warnings. You just won't see most of the drawings. In fact, you won't even see the menu without Javascript turned on.

Do let's ask a stupid question.

Which program is it that's prompting you to use Java?

    Post a screenshot. Thanks.
