    Win Logo Key

When I tap the Win/Logo key it opens up a black box with different apps and options for my PC. At the bottom of the box there was like a 'start' box or column where you could type in a question or a command. This box or column no longer appears. If I tap my Win key there is nothing where I could ask a question or type in anything. Any ideas as to where it went would be helpful.

Things have changed with the Win key in Windows. You need press a specific letter to go with what you are wanting.

Are you referring to the "run as" dialog box? You have to push the windows key + r for that.

If you're referring to the search box within the start menu, make sure it isn't hidden. Right click on the taskbar, hover over "search" in the context menu and have a look at the hidden or not options within that.

It could also be tablet mode is hiding it. Press windows key + X, select taskbar, and deselect "Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode".

It does not appear but it still operates.
Just press the WinKey or click on the Start button then type as if the box had appeared and the computer will respond as if you had typed into the box that had not appeared.

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

Eternal--Thanx again. I reinstalled the 'search' box, but when I type anything in it--nothing happens. Am I back to square one?
PS, that's the 'Type here to search' box. It appears, but nothing happens when I type in it.

That almost certainly won't help with not being able to type in the search box.

Assuming you're referring to the taskbar search box (or via Win key + s), you will find a number of threads on tenforums about not being able to type in it.

Once again, as I've said recently in response to this problem (please feel free to search tenforums for threads on this top and use it as a resource, as this problem has been asked about numerous times) check if ctfmon.exe is running.

It is not easy to solve this problem, once it occurs. I've never experienced it.
See related threads - and feel free to search generally.

    Note:
    I reinstalled the 'search' box
    - you didn't actually install anything. You just chose to make it visible on the taskbar.

    There are 3 options -
    - to have it visible
    - to have an icon for it on the taskbar
    - to not have it visible.

If it is not visible, then as I said, use Win key + s.

When I tap the Win/Logo key it opens up a black box with different apps and options for my PC
That sounds like the Start Menu.
In my case, that's what happens.

Thanks. I suggested above you check if ctfmon.exe is running.
That's one reason SOME (but not all) have found causes this.
If it is running, please search tenforums for other cases.

Sometimes this is due to a tweak or hack that someone has applied.

If considering a general Windows repair e.g. an in-place upgrade repair install, first check that you do see the SAME problem after creating a new user account (for test purposes- delete afterwards), and logging in as that user.
If you don't, the problem is account-specific.

"can't type in taskbar search box"
    => e.g.
    Win Logo Key-1.jpg

However when I tap Winkey + S, nothing happens
Not surprising- I think that's related to you not being able to type - i.e. the whole feature is non-functional for you.

How Win key s should work:
    If...
    - you don't have the icon or box visible on the taskbar, then the search box is shown in a pane ABOVE the taskbar
    - you have the search box visible on the taskbar, the rest of the pane appears above that.

    Try this:
(Permanently Solved) Can't Type In The Search Bar On Windows 10 Keyboard Not Working In Search Bar - YouTube

and I just remembered that my father had this exact issue a few years ago. This YouTube video with the PowerShell script part IS what solved the problem. I am really sure that those three scripts you run in PowerShell should definitely fix the issue. Look at the description of the video to copy & paste the commands instead of typing them:
