No permission to save in location

    I am an admin.
I use Kompozer to create html files
I have IIS. And therefore inetpub and wwwroot folders
I create a dir in wwwroot and save via Kompozer an html to that dir.
Then I use notepad and write a file and try to save it to that dir and the system tells me I have no permissions to save to that dir !
    Can anyone help with that?

tiny bit of a hassle to do this but yep probably a workaround. this is, though, why is this happening? it never used to. everytime I want to write to a folder in inetpub I'm going to have to do this? and what is that I am logged on as a administrator but things I run are not run as administrator?

Never heard of it before. Thank you, I'll look it up.

You don't get blanket permissions. Run as administrator has nothing to do with the use of an administrator account.

    See:
What Does "Run as Administrator" Mean in Windows 10?

So when you run an app as an administrator, it means you are giving the app special permissions to access restricted parts of your Windows 10 system that would otherwise be off-limits. This brings potential dangers, but it is also sometimes necessary for certain programs to work correctly.
You could muck about with permissions and take ownership of that folder and it's subfolders but it's probably better to use a workaround for protected system file locations in Windows.

So am I misremembering that it has never happened before? I know I can freely create folders under inetpub and move things in and out of them. But can't save a text file ? Puzzling.

edit: or maybe not so puzzling. perhaps this is what you're trying to tell me? creating folders etc is all system stuff and I'm admin. but saving a text file created in such as notepad++ is a third party app, not me, and without specifically being made to it doesn't run with admin rights.

I've only been using windows since about 2000 so give me another few years and I'll catch up. Perhaps.

    Is the full path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\?

If so, it should normally allow writing there without requiring elevation. I think it would be fine to reset the ownership and permissions of the C:\inetpub\ tree.

It is. Comes standard when you enable IIS.

So this is a little over my head (regarding permissions) so maybe @LesFerch might know the correct way to change them.

A Microsoft article describing the permissions and user rights needed in the inetpub folder.
