    Still OK, but I'll give it a few days.

    If this is really fixed now, I suspect the correct fix was the C++ thing all along, though the other attempted fixes don't seem to have hurt anything. Cortana in the Start Menu is still missing, but I'm 100% OK with that as long as there are no adverse side effects.

    FWIW, this morning MS automatically re-installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.30729.6161.

    We'll see.

    Thanks to all who helped.

    It was 3, cut it down to one (as previously described), and today's update brought it up to 2.

    Note that certain programs need particular builds installed- it is perfectly normal to have multiple builds present as I expect you know.

    ok cool. I should be getting this update tomorrow. I clicked the link but couldn't really make out if its addressing the StartMenuExperienceHost.exe error. Maybe its just included because its a quick fix.

    Just checked same story MS S'hiet. The error just show after 4 hours after the update. This is kind of joke and nobody can help and the problem is so old as i see in the forums.

    Store just updated itself in the background. It's a system component, but I think it's fishy that Windows has begun to update these without my consent. I hardly ever use the preinstalled UWP apps and I don't want excess "moving parts" in my system.

    On another note I haven't seen the error anymore, but I've only used the startmenu recently to shut down, so maybe the crash won't have time to get logged, or maybe it's just random.
