Search box on desktop is not working. It won't accept my text input.
Windows 10, Version 22H2
Running on a Dell Optiplex 3060, 64-bit processor
Why has the search box on the desktop screen stopped working?
I'm talking about the box just to the right of the windows icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.
It was working before.
I have tried many "fixes" I found doing a Google Search. None of them worked.
I click on the search box. It briefly turns from grey to white, but never allows me to type
a search term. (And yes, I have rebooted the system several times.)
It seems this might be a Cortana issue?? I don't know, but it's insane! How could such a basic
feature of the operating system stop working!!?
by the way - I did check for updates, and it said a security update of some kind was available
But when I tried installing that, it failed and said "error encountered" (0x80070643).
The operating system keeps reminding me my computer supports Windows 11, and I can upgrade.
But if Version 10 acts this way, how on earth should I
trust Windows 11 to behave any better !! Wouldn't I just be inviting more problems!?
Posting here is a last resort. I'm at my wits end. If you folks can't help, I will
probably try to re-install the operating system completely. That is, if I can figure
out how to do it.
PS: I don't use Onedrive. I don't use Office 365. I don't use MS Edge. I don't have MS Office installed. And I
have no restrictions whatsoever about browsing (ie., age limits). This is a home computer, with one user: me!!!
thanks
