"New" File Explorer crashes upon launch

Haven't used it in a while, but as of today the "new style" File Explorer app crashes immediately upon opening. The "old" Win 10 File Explorer works fine. Any ideas on why this would be happening?

Sorry, it's the one that was downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Supposed to be the "next gen" file manager. I guess it is similar to what is found in Win 11. It no longer appears to be available in the Store. I'm guessing MS decided to disable it for Win 10.

Hard to remember as it was installed a few years ago. It might have been a "preview" version.

Curiously, it's not in my Store "Library" so I'm guessing I d/l it from a link in an article. I'll just delete the shortcut. (It did once work, though.)

Ok.. there's a Files App and a 'Mighty Explorer' in the Store- and there have been 3rd party file managers around for years like Q-dir, Free Commander, XYplorer etc.. but none can fully replace file explorer which in some ways is intrinsically part of the O/S.

It wasn't a "replacement" so much as a modern-style alternative. I know there are 3rd-party alternatives, but this was definitely MS.

I don't think so; it was free.

    The shortcut points to:

    C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:AppsFolder\c5e2524a-ea46-4f67-841f-6a9465d9d515_cw5n1h2txyewy!App

Files probably was free on the store at one point but after looking they now charge like in a support manner on the store but the github still has it for free.

dunno never use stuff like this but files looks like how you describe compared to all the other ones coming up. Could easily mistake it for offical because of how its themed it looks like windows 11.

Hard to say though really, if you don't know we don't either and there will be potentially exponential amounts of utilities there that could fit the bill. if its not coming up as an official app from Microsoft with search terms then its something else you installed.

    You mean this?

Windows 10 Tip: Unlock the UWP File Explorer - Thurrott.com

It's not exactly great so why even bother using it?

As for why it crashes it might be a shell extension issue but why not just use windows file explorer along with third party file managers if you need more functionality?
