When you "delete" a file it isn't in fact removed from the drive but the clusters on the allocation table are set as "available" so the clusters can be used by a new file. In other words, the deleted file information remains on the clusters until it is used by another file.
To recover a file it is very important not write anything to the drive. The problem is that windows writes to the drive all the time, specially on shutdown.
If you don't have a program as Recuva and you install it on same drive after the delete, you may ruin the chances of recovering the file.

In other words, making a periodic data backup on a dedicate backup drive is the best way to recover your data after a disaster.
You can also do a disk image backup. I have a dedicated drive for backups with drive images that I update twice a year and data backups that update every week.

    FYI,
the deleted folder consists of 394 files and 68 GB of data. I do not use this drive.
So, talking the Recuva and WinfrGU found 0 deleted files because files were erased due to using the drive or turning off the PC is fiction.

its not fiction it can happen for various reasons. I have deleted stuff before and tried to recover it right away and there is no trace. Its nuanced its not a guaranteed thing to get files back with recovery software.

Just the other day i deleted my password store for my browser by accident and i could not recover it 10 minutes later. There was no trace of the file.
With 68gb of data then you would expect to find some traces of the data. You might have to change the search terms. If you have written to the drive or moved files around then some of the data could be lost.

    Also say an example
    Code:
    - Root Folder
       - some folder
         - picture1.png
         - picture2.png
Because of how clusters work say you delete Root folder. You then try to search for Root folder in the recovery software it might not come up with any results. So you go down the line. You search for some folder instead and see if that returns anything if not you search for picture1.png.

    etc

or if you know some of the extension that were in that folder then you search for those extensions and then filter by date ascending so it show you all the files it can find that were delete and filtered to the time closest to you.

So you didn't install Recuva on the drive, but you have messed with other software.
Now you know that the best chance to recover from a disaster is to have a backup.
