ChkDsk checks the file system & bad sectors.
CDI checks a host of hardware measures & probably bad sectors.

I was making backup images with Macrium Reflect Free but when I got this PC in Feb. they had stopped the free edition Probably just start making images again with Windows.

- do NOT use the built-in Backup and Restore (Windows 7). MS recommends against this.

The free version of Macrium R is still available- just not being updated.

Some have suggested Hasleo Backup (free) - the best of Macrium R's paid features. Chinese.
Aomei Backupper (free) - Chinese - also Pro is often given away.
