Strange Linux file appearing on desktop (Windows 10 Pro version 22H2)

Yesterday this Linux icon appeared on my desktop that tries and fails to access localhost on the Windows Subsystem for Linux, which I have never set up, when opened.

It doesn't seem to be a real file as it does not show up on the file explorer or any console, it doesn't have properties and can't be deleted

Is this a bug, and is there a way to get rid of it?

I don't think they are Linux. The .docx should be in Documents, the .py are probably associated with Python [but I may be wrong on that], the .exe usually go in Downloads, the .jpg in Pictures and .lnk can stay on the Desktop as they are shortcuts to other files.

The other files are unrelated (and yeah my desktop isn't very organized lol) I'm just wondering why this Linux file isn't showing up in the list

The icon may be correct, Bash is most commonly associated with Linux, so is Dolphin. Right-clicking an icon then checking Properties will reveal more about it.

Linux Subsystem sets up an environment for Linux to run within. You should access it from the terminal and not a link.

Bash is literally a pre-dos like enviorment or the "Terminal" for Linux, Unix, etc. Once you have bash you on your way to doing Linux work.

However Bash is also presented in ssh ( which you can install without installing Linux subsystem ). This is used for programming
and allows to use editors and things like python. Like Gamecube, GameboyAdvance, Playstation 2, programming or whatever
    machine .

........... After you are in Bash ( the one you install with Linux Sub system ) you can load Linux release ( in my case is Ubuntu ).

Wsl1 and Wsl2 both access Linux distro differently and you can set them up accordingly. Personally I like Wsl1 out of the box
rather then Wsl2 because the point is the GUI linux which could be achieved different ways.

Great you have linux within Windows, and if you have Linux that your able to use GUI programs would be even better. From then on you would be able to even run android emulators on Linux ( but of course the Linux would need full access to the GPU ).

I would rather use a Virtual Machine to run Linux or Android ( if possible ) only problem is that GPU support.

    .......................

Linux or windows you can compile programs/apps and run them via whichever method of download and installing these packages. It might look like a long line of scribbles but the syntax will be understandable over time.

You can download the source-code, have the necessary libraries/packages associated with them and compile them fresh.
If you can program you can edit the source-code to your pleasure as well.

A few years ago I was given a custom-build Desktop with Gigabyte motherboard, Intel Core i7-4770 CPU and 8GB RAM for what parts I could use. I rehabbed it instead and now running Linux Mint on it. It's attached to a KVM switch along with Win7, Win10 and Win11 Desktops.

This looks like a Mapped Network Drive, the path starts with \\.
Do you have a Linux machine on your network?
You can go to Search or the Run box and type in \\wsl.LocalHost and see if it connects

The icon appears to be a link to the Windows Subsystem for Linux running within your device (hence wsl.localhost.

    Hope this helps...

You looked in your personal desktop, but what you see on your desktop is actually the combined contents of two desktop folders, your private one and a public one.

Look in C:\Users\Public\Desktop and you should find it there.

The only linux machines I had were virtual machines that I used years ago and the network drive didn't appear until recently, and trying to connect to wsl.LocalHost gives the same error that I showed in the original post
