How to copy text from phone to pc?

    Hi,

I am using [Notepad Free] app in Samsung A32 5G phone (no DeX feature), I want to cast/mirror my phone to my PC monitor (so the phone screen appears on PC monitor) and edit [Notepad Free] app notes using my PC keyboard and mouse and copy text from [Notepad Free] app to my PC software (e.g. microsoft word in PC) or vice versa.

I have tried Phone Link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...s-your-devices
After Phone Link is setup in PC and connected to phone, phone screen appears in PC monitor, using PC keyboard and mouse I can copy text from SMS messages and paste text into my PC, but I cannot copy text from [Notepad Free] app and paste text into my PC.
Update info: Phone Link software all text inside all phone apps (including [Messages] app) cannot be copy from phone and paste into my PC. Phone Link has a [Messages] tab that shows phone sms and only if I copy text from the [Messages] tab then I can paste into my PC.

Q1. What is the best way to copy text from phone [Notepad Free] app and paste text into my PC?

Q2. What Windows 10 Pro PC software can OCR text that appears in the PC monitor screen? In my PC monitor, in Phone Link I can see my phone's [Notepad Free] app text appear in PC monitor, so I want to use OCR software to select/copy the [Notepad Free] app text and then paste into Microsoft word (in my PC)
Update Q2.: PowerToys Text Extractor can OCR text that appears in the PC monitor screen

    Thanks

Paste the text into Notebook Free and Save it to your phone in Documents or wherever.
Attach phone to computer via USB charging cable. If phone is unlocked, a message will appear to Trust this Device once Trusted it allow you to browse the phone on your computer.
On the computer, Browse to the Documents folder on the phone and drag and drop or copy and paste the Notebook Free file to your computer.

Or Email it to yourself as an attachment.

Or just take a screenshot of the text and save it to your DCIM (Pictures) folder, and do any of those other options to save it to the computer.

If you have Phone Link on the computer, Copy the text on your computer and paste it into Notepad, Word or any other word processing app and save it on your computer.

Using Phone Link on my laptop with Windows 11 Pro I can copy text back and forth from my Samsung S21 5G phone.

    I use the following keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl-X = Cut, Ctrl-C = Copy, and Ctrl-V = Paste

    Here are three examples.

In your laptop Phone Link software, are you able to copy text from phone [Samsung Note] app and [Whatsapp] app (or any messaging app) and paste into your laptop?

In your phone did you login to microsoft account?

In your PC did you login to microsoft account?

Did you use microsoft account to login windows or local account to login windows?

Where did you download the Notepad app in your phone, your Notepad icon looks like the real Notepad like the one that comes with Windows by default, how to search for the same one like yours? In the playstore I see all are 3rd party Notepad.

Where did you download the Word app in your phone? Is it free or paid?

I am wondering is it only can copy from those phone apps produced by microsoft and paste into microsoft windows.
    Thanks

    Notepad is part of Windows.
Using Phone Link / Messages tab on a Windows PC, I can copy text from Phone Link and Paste it into Notepad in Windows like I said in Post #2. You can use the keyboard shortcuts to make it easier.
If you have WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Teams, or any other messaging app for Windows PC , you can open those apps on the PC
on the Chats or Messages tab and copy and paste the text from there into Notepad in Windows.

    What is your phone model?

You and MisterEd are both using Win 11 Pro, I am using Win 10 Pro, maybe that is the difference, or the phone model is the difference.

I can copy text back and forth from Samsung Notes on Phone to my Word or Notepad on PC. Samsung Notes is not logged in on phone. I would if I wanted to sync data.

I don't use WhatsApp or any another messaging app so can't test that.

Link to Windows on the Phone is logged into my Microsoft Account. That was required to set it up to use Link to Windows on PC.

I am logged into a local account on my PC. I only use my Microsoft account when necessary.

    Notepad for Android
    AsianProGamer
Notepad for Android - Apps on Google Play

It is for OK for taking quick notes since there is no way to have more than one note. However, it will always save that one note.

    Microsoft Word: Edit Documents (Free)
Microsoft Word: Edit Documents - Apps on Google Play

    Microsoft Excel: Spreadsheets (Free)
Microsoft Excel: Spreadsheets - Apps on Google Play

These are not the same as Microsoft 365 (Office) which uses OneDrive.

    Microsoft 365 (Office) Free
Free version only has Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Microsoft 365 (Office) - Apps on Google Play

There is also a more advanced Microsoft 365 (Office) which is a paid subscription plan.

As I have said I can also copy from Notepad for Android and Samsung Notes.

    UPDATE:

I also have a laptop with Windows 10. I tried the same thing but to my surprise copying to and from my phone did not work. I do not understand this. I will have to try this again later.

I solved the problem. I close Phone Link and then open again, this [Copy and paste between your device and PC] (screenshot 1) popup automatically and I click [Turn on] and then [Settings] page (screenshot 2) auto popup. At this moment my problem is solved. I notice the screenshot 2 [Settings] page Settings>Features>[Cross-device copy and paste] is On, so I guess it was Off by default earlier. I did not go into the Settings page before screenshot 2 appeared.

    -----
    Info:
I later go Settings>Features>[Cross-device copy and paste] and switch off [Cross-device copy and paste] then try copy and paste again and the problem happens again, so it is really this setting that is causing the problem when it is Off.

    -----
    Info:
I setup by following the video How to use the Microsoft Your Phone app on your Galaxy smartphone - YouTube in this guide How to use Link to Windows on your Galaxy smartphone - Samsung Business Insights and during the setup I need to enter microsoft account in Phone Link (in PC) and in Link to Windows (in phone), no way to avoid using microsoft account like the video using older version, after setup is completed, I use it immediately and I am unable to copy and paste between my phone and PC, I did not change anything in the settings, I did not know there is a settings page.
My windows 10 pro pc is login using local account (no microsoft account)
