Onedrive - Moving from HDD to SSD

Windows 10 - latest patches applied.

I have a computer using Onedrive, keeping a copy of all data locally.

I'd like to upgrade HDD to SSD. Plan on using Macrium to backup HDD and Macrium to restore image to SSD.

I'm wondering how will Onedrive see this change. Will it consider all the data files as "New" and upload ( deleting all existing files) or will it recognize the data files as the same files that it has already upload.

( My underlying concerned is Onedrive will recognize the storage drive has change even though the data hasn't actually changed. )

    Thanks

I admit to being unsure of what will happen if you are only moving data, but if you are imaging the entire drive, Windows and all, OneDrive will think that it is the same installation of Windows, and that the data has not changed so it should not attempt to re-upload data.

The important thing is to make sure you sync your HDD right up to the switch over.

Not sure if you have other devices linked that might be making changes to the Cloud in the interim.

Unlike Dropbox, Onedrive does not see the Cloud as the Master copy, it sees whatever the computer has on it as what you now want.

If they're the same, you're fine, like in your case.

I've had issues where I restored a week old Macrium image and whatever changes occurred to the cloud during that interim were lost, Onedrive thinking the image version was the new Master copy.

It was an issue at one time:

OneDrive Deleting Newer Files After Backup Restore?

When is Microsoft going to fix OneDrive when a computer image is restored?

Where as with Dropbox, it notices the restored image as older and lacked what had been sent up during the same time period.

Simply stated, for Onedrive, restoring an image from a week ago is not the same as having the machine turned off for the week and then turned back on.

Personally I like Dropbox's method better.

I would say that, as the SSD is a clone of the HDD, Onedrive won't even notice the change.
