... i can still access task manager...
    Welcome to Ten Forums.

If you still have Task Manager then you can open a Command Prompt (Admin) from there. Select File >Run new task. In the 'Open' box type cmd.exe and make sure you tick the box below to 'Create this task with administrative privileges'.

taskbar gone and cant access settings-image.png

When the command prompt opens, type the command sfc /scannow and press Enter.

If this says it found corrupt files it couldn't fix, then type the command dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (you need to be online for this) then try the sfc command again.

Please also note that whilst you may receive appropriate help here, this is tenforums for - yes- Windows 10.

You have Win 11 - so once you have this problem resolved- if it can be - please register on

    - for - yes- Windows 11. Thanks.

it doesnt show any of my desktop shortcuts or my wallpaper
Are you in fact logged in to your usual user profile?

Check whch profile folder you are using by e,g,
    Win key + r
    Type cmd.exe (press ENTER)
then at the command prompt copy and paste
    echo %userprofile% (press ENTER)
    - is the folder shown what you expect?

    automatically started an update
It may be that in all of this you somehow interrupted an update - in which case results will be unpredictable.

If what Bree has suggested doesn't fix this, you may need to do an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.

Note: I have my PCs configured so updates can't occur except under my control and when I want.

neither of those worked the scannow just says theres an update that needs my pc to restart and i did and it still says it and the second one just freezes at 62.3% EDIT the scan says theres no violations found

And thank you for your reply.

It sounds as if you've somehow interrupted an update in progress. As such your O/S could be in an undefined state.

You didn't answer my question about your user profile.

If you still have difficulty with a pending update you can try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
    - like the above, from the huge searchable Tutorials section (click Tutorials at the top). Do feel free to have a look.

    No guarantees here.

I will assume you haven't yet started using 3rd party disk imaging regularly and routinely as is endlessly recommended here. If you had been, you could have restored a recent image and been back running as you were. E.g. Macrium Reflect, Aomei Backupper etc + external storage for image file sets.
