ROBOCOPY acts quirky just after DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

I love using ROBOCOPY to perform my file backups but just after DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME occurs it appears to no longer perform a DIFFERENTIAL backup. Instead, ROBOCOPY starts copying as if it were the very first time. I know there is a 'DST' optional flag available but when using it, DST appeared to have no influence on the execution (i.e., it still treats my copy as if it were the very first time). This adds a lot of time since my ROBCOPY has many files in many subdirectories.

    So my questions are:

    1) why does DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME force ROBOCOPY to start as if it had never performed a copy on my files before?
    2) what is the purpose of the DST flag?
    3) how can I get ROBOCOPY to treat copying my files the same way as if DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME had not occurred?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan,

Yes, I've often seen that too.
It seems that RoboCopy is not clever enough to realise that the two date-time stamps are referring to the same date-time despite the DST switch and decides, instead, that the previous backup [destination file] is older.
I have not found a solution.

I use FastCopy (an older version, 3.13). It's a 3rd party app, with a visual version of RoboCopy.

Works really well and exactly like RoboCopy for me.

[QUOTE=pepanee;2615393]Thanks, I'll look into FastCopy (and I'll be impressed if it's as fast as ROBOCOPY). I'd still like to find out why RC behaves as it does after DST.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Hard to believe as quick as RC is that it gets confused by DST!?

My DST changes in a couple of weeks.
I'm working through checking that all my RoboCopy scripts do use that /DST switch so I can learn from seeing how they behave afterwards. If I have previously left it off any of them it will stop me reaching any conclusions this 31st March.

There's another DST at the end of March?! I thought we all had the same DST on March 10th?
I look forward to your findings.

    It weird, right?
This is the UK's Daylight Saving Time begins on the last Sunday in March:
daylight saving time uk - Search

Wanna hear something else that's a bit weird too? You know how our Mother's Day is in mid-May?
The UK's Mother's Day began in March... not that long ago...
    guess on which day...
    ... mother's day uk - Search
    (The US's DST day)

    Dan,

As pepanee said, the UK changes to DST ["BST"] from GMT on the last Sunday of March. We then change back on the last Sunday of October.
We lose an hour at the end of March & gain an hour at the end of October.
We say, "Spring forward, Fall back.".
At the time your lot decided to go your own way, both your lot & my lot called the season "Fall". We changed the name to "Autumn" during the mid-1800s when French became fashionable.

I have a couple of dozen scripts using RoboCopy.
In many of those, RoboCopy is used multiple times.
Some of those scripts have existed for thirty years. They've all been built on since then.
I'm going to check that I have included the /DST switch in each occurrence.
I think they all have the switch but I have never sat down and worked my way through them all to check.
I don't want to leave any exceptions because the mixture of behaviours would prevent me understanding RoboCopy behaviour.

Interesting that the UK follows its own DST day. I wonder if other countries do the same.
I can understand that Mother's Day is not universal but DST surprises me.

Countries have been experimenting in their own way with DST ever since Old Harry came up with the idea.
Our DST was, at one time, a two hour jump. So even in mid-Summer 8pm would have been dusk.
