How to get File Explorer to remember column heading positions?

How do I get File Explorer to remember the column heading positions after they are set? Every day I have to reset them so I can see everything in the column. It seems like it should remember them.

The column headings are, for example, Name, Date Modified, Type, Size.

    Thanks. Windows 10 Home 22H2

Windows does remember them, individually for each folder for which you change the column layout. But there is a limit to the number of folder layouts it can remember, by default that's 5,000. If you have been running Windows for a long time then you may have reached that limit and Windows can no longer remember any new changes you make. This happened to me on one PC that had been running Windows 10 since the launch in August 2015.

To fix this you have a choice. You can either clear all the folder view settings and start over. Or you can increase this limit to a maximum of 20,000.

It's also possible to make some changes in the Details view then in Options, View tab and 2 settings at the top, set them as desired first.

Thank you guys. I checked and I had maxed out at 5,000. I just increased it to 20,000 as per the instructions.

glad you got it sorted, though that would be it. When it happened to me I chose to clear all mine and start afresh.

For better performance and reliability, I recommend setting the default views to your preferences using WinSetView. This will zero out your saved views.
