    Restore files from microsd card

    Hi people.

I have here a microsd card which I'm trying to recover files from it, but I don't know if it's permanently damaged.

It's not showing on any file manager, but it's showing on disk management as "this device is working properly" and assigned to letter P.

I tried some recovery programs (recuva, photorec) to no avail.

My card reader is functioning properly, I tried with other microsd cards.

    What else can I try?

    Running Win10 22H2 19045.4046

    Thanks very much!

Have files been deleted from the card & you’re trying to recover those or is it just that it doesn’t appear under Computer so you cannot copy the files from the drive?

Hi, I tried but it returns the error "Failed to initialize volume, Error 0x80070015: The device is not ready."

It was not deleted, simply stopped working and it's not appearing anywhere (only on disk management).

I wonder if disk imaging software will work? Not to fix the problem with the card but the image the card or to backup the files. I would try Macrium check if the card shows.

You can try free Data Recovery apps Recuva or DiskDrill or DiskGenius in my signature.

Are the files from a camera? Could be the format is different from what Windows can use, in such cases I use Linux Mint as it can handle more formats. Might also check it back in the camera.

The files are pictures from a smartphone.

I tried all mentioned apps and linux, to no avail, probably the card is really damaged.

    Thanks anyway for your attention.

If you tried Macrium & it didn’t see the drive then I the drive has failed. You could create their boot media, boot from this to see if the drive is seen outside of Windows.
