Saving my info, should my PC crash.

I have over the years written short stories and a few other papers using wordpad on my desk top with Windows 10.
My question is...does this go to I cloud or (?) in the event my PC crashes burns whatever.
Can I recover the information, documents, stories to a new PC?.

    Hello,

For something like that, I would recommend to keep multiple backups to be safe.

You can save a copy of the files on another internal/external drive, and USB flash drive.

You can also save a copy of the files to OneDrive to sync online as a backup.

If there's not to many stories, you might even print out a hard copy of them to keep in safe location.

Microsoft is no longer supporting WordPad. We strongly suggest converting your Documents to Microsoft Word, or using the free LibreOffice app. Download LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft
Microsoft is removing WordPad from Windows after nearly 30 years - The Verge

We also suggest making an System Image file of your computer using a 3rd party app like Macrium Reflect or your favorite Imaging app, and save that Image to an external HDD. If disaster strikes, you can easily restore the Image and have all of your apps and your documents restored in minutes.

If you downloaded LibreOffice, open each of your WordPad documents with Writer (Libre's Word alternative) and Save As a document that is compatible with Microsoft Word not the default LibreOffice extension. So, anyone with Microsoft Word can read the document or you can use the Writer app, Or if you want to upgrade to Microsoft Office.
This doesn't have to be done in one day, just take your time. And your WordPad documents will still work in Windows 10, but if you get a new computer or upgrade your Windows OS, it will not include WordPad.

Me and you too. Even backing up is not safe anymore.

    1. Make a physical backup on a flash and or high quality ssd and hide them in locations nobody would mess with at all. Maybe even a couple of USBs to be safe.

    2. store in .rar or .7zip with password and further compress into another password compression method. Store online via webspace somewhere. Make strong password you can never forget.

    3. Just print out your work and if you want to be fancy, you could use book creating software like Quark or indesign, or something that formats it to a printable book file. Then have it printed at a local printer in person ( not somebody you send your info to, that backfired on somebody who made Canadian Jokes and sent it to a Canadian Printer .

I say print out your work because god forbid the Russian-police ( house of Anti-Americans ) comes through your door and they take your machines and storage devices away at least you will have your books. Which they do not care about.
