    Is BIOS flashback button important?

    Hello,

I saw this Asus [PRIME B550M-A (WI-FI)] motherboard then I noticed it does not have BIOS Flashback button. I am wondering should I get a motherboard with a BIOS Flashback button.

I saw another more expensive model with BIOS Flashback button Asus [TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II]

TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II|Motherboards|ASUS Global

Q1. Is BIOS flashback button important? Should I get a motherboard with a BIOS Flashback button?

Q2. When do you need to flash BIOS? (I am a noob to flash bios)

I read some people seems to struggle without bio flashback button

Is using Asus USB BIOS FlashBack using a USB flash drive and by pressing the BIOS FlashBack button easier than traditional way of flashing BIOS?

You can download BIOS/UEFI firmware upgrade from motherboard manufacturer support website some of these downloaded files executable also allows you to backup your BIOS/UEFI firmware before upgrading.

I would not buy a motherboard without it. Some issues can make PC unbootable (TPM related are pretty popular thanks to MS), re-flashing BIOS can help with that, but it is impossible to flash BIOS manually, if you can even not start PC. I had this problem several times, not just after upgrading BIOS, but it happened at random, thanks to 11.

It can flash BIOS without CPU, GPU and RAM. It is the best feature ever invented.

Never, but MS in it's wisdom allows OEMs to update BIOS and TPM via windows updates and it can brick PC.

The BIOS flashback button is "nice" to have, but not really needed.
It's major purpose is to allow you to flash the BIOS on a motherboard with no components attached.
All you need is the 24 pin power connector.

The safest method is to use the ASUS EZ Flash3.
This will have you put the BIOS file on a USB stick, then flash the BIOS from "within" the BIOS.
You'll find EZ Flash3 on the "Tools" tab in the BIOS.

In 40 years of using at least 100 computers at work or at home, I have never needed to use a flashback button. BIOS reset jumper, yes. I would never replace a motherboard just to get the button.

    Exactly.

If you're already planning on buying a new motherboard, then picking one with the Flashback button is fine.
But there's no need to buy a new mobo, just for the button.

There is an added layer of redundancy added if the motherboard has the button as you have more granular control of bringing the computer back to life if something goes wrong.

Overall its not that big of a requirement if the computer is not turning on and displaying something on the screen when you push the power then the bios button probably wont save you.

personally if it has one it has it if it doesn't not a big deal.

My Asus board doesn't have BIOS flashback button but it does have ASUS Crash Free BIOS 3 as shown below. I've only ever used EZ Flash without problems.

I have not quite those numbers but quite a few years and quite a few PC and laptops and I agree totally.
