My new Asus X570 board clears the profile on updating the BIOS so you can't use that method. You can store the settings to a .CMO file on a USB drive but that is unreliable too. I just updated my BIOS last week and the BIOS screen would hang as soon as values were loaded from the .CMO file from the previous BIOS. I had to configure my settings manually. Fortunately I had written them down.
Mine does that on some BIOS flashes but not others.
I assume that on those times when it does do that, it's because the settings saved in the profile won't work.... in the new version of the BIOS.
This started to happen especially, when they started with all the security junk and the Win 11 requirements junk, that they've been putting in the BIOSes, the last few years or so.

Sometimes flashing the BIOS to a new version will reset the BIOS to defaults, but leave the profiles.
I just try to assume... the BIOS folks know what they're doing.

I did skip 3 BIOS versions then ASUS released another update the day after I updated! My previous 12 year old Gigabyte board saved the BIOS date in a profile which was remembered between BIOS updates.

I'm not sure all this messing around with the BIOS (for security or Win 11 reasons), is such a good idea.

This seems to me to be one of those... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" things.
