Pentagon, installed large disk (m.2, but with PCIe adapter) on PCIe. System boots, either with the old drive in the m.2 slot or not.
Either configuration allows access to all files.
With large disk in m.2,, whether or not the small disk is in PCIe, BSOD without capability to go into any of the recovery options.
Also, using either disk on PCIe will boot even though BIOS does not recognize either disk.

    Pentagon,
small disk is m.2 slot, BIOS recognizes it, but boot is from large drive on PCIe adaptor according to diskmgmt. Very strange. -diskmgmt-large-disk-bios-recognizes-small-disk.jpg

It is not strange, because you have to select the bootmanager from the bootoptions in BIOS!

    • Error code: Kernel security check failure. After three unsuccessful boot attempts get into Win rescue environment: Troubleshoot - Advanced Options – Startup repair – back to Kernel security loop.

In my interpretation it means that you have access to the recovery.
Only if you have access to command prompt, it makes sense to try suggestion from my reply in post #9

The frustrating thing is that with the old drive in m.2, the BIOS under Advanced Options shows the (old) drive with all the details. The big drive on PCIe is nowhere to be found in the BIOS, i.e. no choice given.
If I remove the old drive, i.e. m.2 is now empty and the big drive is on PCIe, the BIOS shows zero drives, yet boots.
Next setup: big drive in m.2, BIOS shows it with all details, but does not show anything for PCIe (which now has the old drive) (and, of course, does not boot).

The problem with Acer is, that they don't give proper manuals with details.
I am afraid that you have to use a Sata SSD for data storage. If the MB has SATA ports.
The partition layout of your old Kingston disk looks good.

Nothing new or surprising about a cloned drive not working. Par for the course

Try imaging > restoring instead. Use the forum favourite Macrium Reflect (freeware version)

    Pentagon,
Thank you very much for your support - much appreciated. In the end I may have to live with the big drive on PCIe, and the original drive on m.2
    Not ideal, but liveable.
    Many thanks again, Pentagon!

"Use the forum favourite Macrium Reflect (freeware version) "

Maybe your favorite, but, certainly NOT mine.

I tried M.R. years ago, and found it seriously wanting. In fact, that's not the only backup/restore program that I've tried, as a working Computer Tech.
After each time trying a new program, I've always had to go back to my original Backup program, "Ghost", which I've been using now since 1997, when I first got a Sample of it from its original writers, in New Zealand.
I used it then, (1997) in a little shop in which I did literally Hundreds of Clones. Many people were running out of disk space, trying to run Windows xx on a disk meant for DOS. So cloning their old disk to a much larger disk was a popular fix.

The ONLY time that Ghost failed to perform a CLONE, is when there were ERRORS on the HD. It won't back up errors!
The Ghost program is still available on the internet, from "Broadcom". They set it up to boot into a Windows 10 shell, , , same old program, new look. Runs GREAT! Did I forget to mention....It's FREE!

The internet is awash with complaints about problems with Macrium Reflect.

    Cheers mates,

    Cheers mates,
And just about every single one of them can be traced back to user inexperience, unfamiliarity. misunderstanding and/or inappropriate use.

Several so called Backup programs are just too complicated for the non Guru crowd.
That's why I always liked Ghost. From the first time I used it to do a Clone, back in 1997, I walked right through the program without any instruction at all. Anyone who can read and understand English, can run the program. And, it just works!

My biggest problem with a 27 year old program is convincing people to use it. It's still the greatest backup program to ever come down the pike.
I used Ghost to back up my C:\ drive, just this morning.

    Cheers Mates!

As mentioned use imaging rather than cloning to avoid disk ID clashes.
