After a couple of years, I downgraded back to W10.

I looked at my posting history on the elevenforums and I was surprised by how it was two years exactly to the day since I upgraded to W11 from W10.

A few days ago my W11 laptop suffered a serious malfunction where it couldn't boot at all. Nothing whatsoever worked to have it reboot after I tried to resolve an issue with Lenovo Vantage service and Microsoft Webview2.

Even though my W10 system is marginally faster than W11, partly because it's a new installation, I detest the W10 Start Menu. It's awful. It's cluttered, confusing and unappealing. I also dislike the W10 notifications and settings. They are intrusive, minimal, and annoying. I'll have to get used to them and resist the temptation to switch back to W11. However, stability is my goal here.

Despite W10's shortcomings, W11 is not perfect either. It has its flaws, such as compatibility issues, bugs, and glitches. It also consumes more resources and battery life than W10. But the W11 interface and snap menu are super handy, I'll miss them,

Anyway, I just thought I would share my experience.

    Open Shell?

    Thanks for the suggestion, dalchina.

To be certain, does 'Open Shell' only apply to making Win 11 work better?

You indicate that you still use Win 10 Pro(22H2) on both your machines. Does this mean that you tried Win 11 and found it inferior to Win 10?

It is just a matter of preference re. menus. The underlying OS functionality i.e. speed of app execution is not changed.

Open Shell is a start menu. As such it's just a program, and is not specific to any one Windows version.
When it's installed you can still use the native start menu.

You could have searched and found out about it...

It..(as I've said many times before)
    - is highly customisable (like Win 7 or in casacading columns across the screen like XP - and more
    - fully supports drag 'n drop
    - supports large deeply nested start menus (which no Win 10 style menu does)
    - has a search box, customisable search ranges.
    - gives quick access to the underlying folders
    - supports UWP apps as a separate list
    - allows you to view and expand the Control Panel applets
    etc...

Here's just one set of settings for it just to give some idea of how many options there might be:

Hello, I had to use a Win11 machine in work, I was not a fan. Took a call with IT support to sort out most. Open Shell helped, I use the Classic Shell on my Win10 machine, never ever used that new menu. And there's that registry edit that switches back to the Win10 right click context menu. I don't like little icons without an explanation.

    Startisback - traditional start menu
Open-shell - Actually Windows Ameliorated comes pre-installed with this. I did not realize it. It is new to me

Wintstep - Nexus is free but others cost money. This literally could replace Explorer as a whole for the most part. Everything else you need to make bat files., but if you miss the OSX menu ( thingy towards the bottom ) that is just pure sax.
It is the most nicest additon to my desktop.

Windows Blinds - This is the cherry on top to have that Windows 7 glass but I advise to adjust to lowest setting and keep the
    glass without blurring

    ...........

I keep my startmenu hidden/ at top
    Traditional start menu
Nexus at the bottom, with bats and anything else I need.

    ................

Only thing I am missing is a low-resource wallpaper program. Like Moe-walls but works like regular wallpaper. The biggest problem is that Moe-walls works with the explorer and not independent from it.

With that said I could shut off explorer.exe and have a true clean desktop

    - Easy - I use Wally (free) to cycle thru a folder- change it on logging in, then the program auto-closes- zero resources.

They made Windows 11 on a suckage of level 40 to make Windows 10 more appealing - which in of its self is on a whole other paradigm of suckage.

It all started with Winblows 8, and it's been downhill from there... Damn shame.

Saying Microsoft windows 11 is not perfect is an UNDERSTATEMENT it's buggy and many have complained but nothing so far has fixed anything.
