After a couple of years, I downgraded back to W10.

I have used Win 7 as my main OS for many years till last November.
I decided to switch to Win 11 as my main OS having Win 7 on a another drive.
Never had a problem with Win 11 23h2
Of course I made many tweaks to win 11 so it looks like Win 7 and works as Win 10.
What programs / apps to use to tweak Win 10

Open-shell - Actually Windows Ameliorated comes pre-installed with this. I did not realize it. It is new to me

Wintstep - Nexus is free but others cost money. This literally could replace Explorer as a whole for the most part. Everything else you need to make bat files., but if you miss the OSX menu ( thingy towards the bottom ) that is just pure sax.
It is the most nicest additon to my desktop.

Windows Blinds - This is the cherry on top to have that Windows 7 glass but I advise to adjust to lowest setting and keep the
    glass without blurring

    ...........

I keep my startmenu hidden/ at top
    Traditional start menu
Nexus at the bottom, with bats and anything else I need.

    ................

Only thing I am missing is a low-resource wallpaper program. Like Moe-walls but works like regular wallpaper. The biggest problem is that Moe-walls works with the explorer and not independent from it.

With that said I could shut off explorer.exe and have a true clean desktop
I tried these applications and I'd only recommend them to my enemies. If you like tinkering, having to re-image your system regularly and don't value "stablity", these applications are for you.

I don't think so. Most people who have migrated over to W11 prefer it or convinced themselves it's better than W10. But clearly, MS has little faith in W11 hence W12 cometh this year.

That's the current culture at Microsoft. Eventually, I expect their OS to be cloud based and more bugs.

Windows 7 ultimate was the ideal OS they should of just stayed there it was a bit better than XP but with less over bloated shell.

The shell in windows 10 is fill of marketing and integrated web services and it sucks you can turn all this off of course but it takes a good day or two depending to go through methodically.

Okay what would you use for the Windows 7 over the main windows panels?
Not the taskbar or startbar? Right now I can not see another day without using Nexus Winstep.

I do not get by "re-image" my system regularly? My system works perfectly fine, Only mistake ( in another thread ) was when I was trying to bite the penny when moving files from a recovery of an accident I made via over-writing a partition. Prior to that a "system restore" would have worked wonders if I had made a system restore backup.

Beyond that my system works purrrrfectly.

I don't think so. Most people who have migrated over to W11 prefer it or convinced themselves it's better than W10. But clearly, MS has little faith in W11 hence W12 cometh this year.
Microsoft tried to make it "easier" to intergrate Linux apps for non computer savy people. Outside of that you would need to run an emulator/Virtual machine within Windows. That is literally what the New "Edge" does in the pro-releases with the Advance mode.

In my opinion Microsoft wants to profit off data-collecting, and makes it easier for those people who are dumbfounded when it comes to privacy and what is privacy.

That's the current culture at Microsoft. Eventually, I expect their OS to be cloud based and more bugs.
Why do we still say "the cloud". There is no such thing as cloud-computing. The whole idea is simple what Bit-torrent is.
One file is located on server A but server B is closer to the client X. So we move the file to server B so client X will get faster access, thus making it look like they are achieving higher speeds for their download. However the "cloud" also could be considered in terms of chain-linking a bunch of computers together to make a faster processor. Which is what Hollywood would do when they wanted a faster processor for special effects, and 3d in the past. Nowadays there are dedicated servers
that is processing all sorts of requests from various programs. Meaning you could have your computer sitting there for hours
like a Bit-coin-mining operation or upload via high-speed internet super fast to that dedicated processing center that is taking multiple requests.

Google already tried doing this, but the question at the end of the day could my Android 4 phone get a 4K display while porting video off a server running my request? That is what Googles plans are.

Microsoft still have one foot in the door alongside intel.

Education, Medical, City Agencies, and other Non-for-profits. If these agencies may it be City, State, Military, or Federal was to rip up there contracts with Microsoft and or just stop ordering specific machines from them, they would in a pickle.
The rest of the user-base are consumers may it be Students, Employees, and Enthusiasts. The reason why those three groups are literally fueling the fire when they do not need to is because they just accept the idea "they have to".

If somebody figured out they could just switch the Ubuntu Linux ( fix up the gui accordingly ) and run everything inside a
virtual-machine, Microsoft would have little and no choice but to have a system that requires an internet connection always on. That is why we have free internet for lower-income in various states. Just to keep them in the loop.

Again pay attention. The three groups of consumers.

    Non for profits via contracts
People who are forced into buying the stuff ( ignoring that tech person at home )
    Other

Government spending ( like Ukraine and Iron-Dome, ) is what is what is holding Microsoft up. They just
want "Everybody in the loop, like with Apple, Google, or whatever"

Sad part not everybody has the "house-wife" mentality

The deal with Windows 7 is that we need all the updates and the recent 2021 updates that puts it on par with Windows 10.
We need ( I mean need ) to be able to run Windows 10 programs, and applications as well. Otherwise it would all be emulations/Virtual Machines.

Yes we are in still in the Windows 7 realm with 7-11 but the flat fact is that many advancements also needs to be address along with needs. If Windows 10 can do it, then why not 7?

Cloud computing is very real its about taking time incentive tasks away from the user in the form of data centers that are stacking enormous amounts of compute power to offer services world wide. Much more than a single computer at home can achieve.

Windows is set to go more cloud based as the other person mentioned. Copilot is leveraging Azure which is Microsoft's cloud service. All the Ai coming out will be leveraging cloud based tech in some form because we cannot run the services locally in many cases because they require a lot of compute power.

The NSA is real too so this means that its a top down system including government and military. They are not first in line to chuck Windows they are first inline to tailor it. There has been a NSA backdoor in all processor since 2009. All consumer processors have it. But the NSA specifically asks for Processors that don't have that tech only we the consumers get that.

We already know that Ai is going to be a weapon used for warfare. The race is on about who can establish the foot hold the fastest and who can dominate in that sector with the most resources.

I would say Microsoft is at the top of the pile next OpenAi tbh, the numbers and stats if you do the math don't lie. Money talks so therefore it paves the way, it won't die because of that fact as its a money machine.

WW3 and WW4 is a technology war not a physical one because that is old tech. We will still be seeing solders shooting each other but the main priory is geopolitical warfare online and through Ai. They used to use helicopters and Airplanes to surveil countries its now inefficient because they can do that with computers that orbit the earth from space and also an interconnected system called the Internet that is in all homes.

Social media? the biggest character profile database to date and people use it without more than 2 brain cells. Anyone can learn your name where you live how many kids you have your friend groups and much more that people divulge.

its crazy the world we live in when you actually sit down and thin about these things, but most people are concerned about their computer being to slow to do X or Y and they need to upgrade to a new computer or whatever.

I mean something to also think about, now they are controlling bugs to do deeds what if this goes into a human super soldier that is enhanced as a cyborg via Ai? We already know Nuratech is Ai in the brain and very real.

I guess eventually they will be able to raise ppl from cryochambers with this logic but we are still in the infancy of it. Something that has also been in development for years and started as a scfi pipe dream in some book 200 years ago. but that is where we are going.

We cannot comprehend stuff that is not real in our brains so it means that all these things have merit, we are also seeing milestones now today that where written on paper in a time where it was not possible.

Sounds far fetched i know but hey Frankenstein was a real concept too. With this logic then in the future they will be able to resurrect beings and giv e them life. They already just announced recently that they have created an artificial human in the lab.

if all the logic is there then it also proves that God is a real concept and that maybe this is all a perversion on the creation. Art imitating life imitating art. Basically a round robin and man is on a quest to create just like God did.

The first computers where Human they are now machines and now they want to be one in the same fused. Round robin again.

I mean also some of this stuff predates "computers" Nikola Tesla discovered spread spectrum and basically Wifi with his tower and this is off the back of the wild west, start of the industrial revolution before we even had TV and computers and well before the first Airplane.

    https://cdn.britannica.com/19/187119...ember-1899.jpg

Long time in the making. They had wifi before the electrical computer, well not they but he did until it got burned down. Well he never really did becauese it got burned to soon but he knew what he was doing. The systems we use to today are based of his work. AC power, Wifi just two examples.

He also envisioned much of the stuff we have now except it was not viable in his time.

The problem is that some Tween/Teen that we was is going to be like "They made this for my generation" bs. They will be high on it like the way I was high on Windows 98. ( I just could not let it go until the Vista years ). That is the problem. I imagine some cheap-skate going "Hey look paa I got the linux alternative for free and it is running in windows ".

That is the consumerism that Microsoft is targeting. You watch the commercials for Windows 11 and often you will see people of African decent ( African Americans ) in an attempt not to look cool, but cover their behind due to the BlackLivesMatters. When in truth they are using this marketing which would obviously benefit their ideal target ( I say target ) consumer.

That user who is no different then "diabetic grandma" all lined up inside an office, with a medical doctor who looks nothing like his/her patients open late night. Imagine getting a bunch of grannies who looks like they need whale-truck to move them all come outside in the cold after six on their own two feet just to be seen. Who is the monster now.

Yep they are talk to any teenager now and they will talk about how great all this is because they can beam VR straight into their eyeballs will having wafiu zum sim senpai tell them they are a good dad.

these the predecessor wafiu because in 30 years or so you will be able to have an implant in your brain so that you can interact with the Ai wafiu sexually.

As we can see know currently entertainment is going to be a huge tool to bring it together VR is also a early precursor because soon it will be a 1:1 connection in the brain instead of a headset.

Data mining is a huge thing in gaming now and gaming beats block buster movies by a massive margin as the main entertainment source.

get the kids while they are young i guess.

I'm not a big fan of cloud-based apps. I heavily rely on ad blockers and anti-fingerprinting extensions, even though some websites don't play nice with them (like this one). And even without these extensions, there's often annoying lag.

I have a hunch that with the increasing incidents of ransomware and breaches where users are adversely affected,, more people and websites might start favoring standalone applications again. Companies don't care as long as they have ransomware insurance. There needs to be consumer including business backlash.

But what really bugs me is that unlike with Windows 7, I can't access my "Quick Access" pinned recent folders and Recent items directly from applications when I need to open or save files. It's a step backward in usability that's frustrating to deal with.

Yes, that's marketing 101 in the 21st century!

And now that Bitcoin might reach 100K and likely level off there, there is even more interest in data mining. Watch GPU prices skyrocket again...
