    Laptop and Windows 12 question

    Hello,

Q1. Should I wait for windows 12 to be released then buy a new laptop? I read windows 12 will not be a free upgrade from windows 11. I want my laptop to last as long as possible, I was thinking windows 11 would have a short lifespan since windows 12 might be coming out in 2024. It seems like windows always release a long lifespan version (e.g. win 95, win 7, win 10) then a short lifespan version with lesser changes (e.g. win 98, win 8) so I am assuming win 11 might be a short lifespan version.

Q2. What are your views on this laptop ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 8 Intel (14”) https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/lapto...el)/21hq001uus

Q3. Is 16GB ram in laptop enough to smoothly run my tasks listed below without lag? I am assuming ram is the most important thing that affects speed for my tasks?

    My requirements

Tasks: Load webpages fast, open multiple browser windows and tabs, youtube, zoom, microsoft office, excel, word, sometimes 2 windows side by side.

Power on for 365 days continuously without switching off (I have scheduled auto backup during I am sleeping), or maybe switch on every night during I am sleeping (so the scheduled backup can run).

Need to have touchscreen and pen/stylus.

Need to be able to connect to monitor (project laptop image on monitor).

    Durable, use for many years.

    Thank you

All the information about Windows 12, so far, is just rumor, including the 2024 release date.

However, Microsoft seems fond of playing the... force users to buy new hardware, so we get a kickback from the manufacturers, game. So it would probably be wise to hold off buying a new laptop, until we have "factual statements" from Microsoft, concerning Windows 12.

Durable for many years is my gripe these days - not many of them seem built for that. But the thinkpads are supposed to be I think. I can’t see Microsoft getting rid of Windows 11 very soon - especially when Windows 10 hasn’t ended yet. But it’s all uncertain. How desperately do you need a new laptop?

I just bought the first new laptop computer in 14 years when i went from using Win XT on my trusty ASUS laptop then we went went from Win 7 to Win 8 then Win 8.1 till we received Win 10 had used it until this new MSI Stealth 16 came wit Win 11 installed.
If only i could still install Win 10 but it came installed just like this Win 11, Microsoft has got it all in their pocket the last time i could buy my own copy of a Windows OS was Win 7.
What i know today in regards to Win 11 i don't like it and wish i could remove it and install Win 10.

I can tell everyone trying to get someone at Microsoft to help you with anything is not easy, bought their Microsoft Office 365 and i hate what they did with the Word, they give you 30 days to get a refund, but when they say you really received it and when you say you received it there is a difference and Microsoft tells you your just to late to get the refund.
I bought my copy of their Office 356 from their web site used my credit card and am in the process of contesting their refusal, it's just $69.99 and that does not worry me but i just don't like getting an e-mail informing me i am out of luck.
I was able to use my old Office 1997 i got with an old Gateway 486 computer a full legal DVD copy, could install it on all systems until Win 11.
Today i just use my older systems running Win 10 that i have my Word 97 on or i use Liber Office 7.6 on the win 11 laptop, i gave the Win Office 365 a try and it's so changed from the older word, and not change i the good way, it's been removed and even if i never get my refund and can reinstall it until November of 2024, i would never want it again.
I might not get a refund but my credit card company is going cause some Microsoft people the time dealing with it.

Generally, these tweaks will turn Windows 11 into Windows 10.

This is a new laptop it came with Win 11 my older laptop have Win 10, there is no older windows that were on this new laptop so i don't have an older win to use in reverting back to a win 10.
Thinking Microsoft planed this when they stopped allowing people to buy their own OS copies, and just upgrading our systems or as today selling it installed on new systems.

    You can.
Under Win 11 save the current drivers as a laptops can have proprietary drivers
Backup and Restore Device Drivers in Windows 10

Win 10 and Win 11 share same license so you can do a Win 10 Clean Install and it will activate.

I have Win 11 on my desktop and with some tweaks i have made it look like Win 7 and work like Win 10.

Are you sure if the new laptop just came with Win 11 where is the Win 10 coming from? is it just installing new drivers?
