    Random crashes/restarts

I've been getting random crashes or restarts for the past couple months that I thought I resolved a few weeks ago but they've come back. It's not BSOD, just restarting. But this morning I found my computer in some weird state where it had shut down but the power light was still on yet it was unresponsive, so I had to unplug it to get it to turn on.

I've looked into this issue and did some things like change a power setting, and told it not to restart upon crashing or something like that. But that hasn't fixed it. I installed a new graphics card several months back and I wonder if maybe the power supply is starting to fail from the extra stress even though it should be within spec. But none of the crashes happen while playing games. So I don't know what's going on. Windows 22H2

    Application & System.
Once the crash happens, go here and see the most recent logs in those two categories. Could possibly tell you exactly what's messing up.
(the logs may be a bit confusing, but you can find info relevant enough, and post a picture of which one it may be, if it doesn't say exactly what app/task is causing the crash...)

There are no errors after when I logged off last night leading to the shutdown. There were some errors and warnings just after starting up though.

Error- Event ID 18: The Windows Security Center Service was unable to load instances of FirewallProduct from datastore.

Warning- Event ID 1008: The Open procedure for service "BITS" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\bitsperf.dll" failed with error code The system cannot find the file specified.. Performance data for this service will not be available.

Error- Event ID 1023: Windows cannot load the extensible counter DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysmain.dll" (Win32 error code The specified module could not be found.).

Error- Event ID 1000: Faulting application name: script-fu.exe, version: 2.10.24.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Faulting module name: script-fu.exe, version: 2.10.24.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\script-fu\script-fu.exe

Error- Event ID 8193: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine QueryFullProcessImageNameW. hr = 0x8007001f, A device attached to the system is not functioning.

These have occurred before in the past couple days and a couple weeks ago.

I'm guessing it might be this one, but I'm not too sure. It is best to make an exact log of the time when it occurs again, then start the computer back up, and look at the log files. Look for a log with that specific time, or very close to the time it occurs.

BUT, there can be hope to possibly fix that specific error.

Go here, and find Rob Ainscough's post down that page, and follow his instructions:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...0-2824345d7897

Also, your computer most likely did have a BSOD, yet it was "hidden".
Here's how you can enable the BSOD in Windows 10, so you can see the exact error it may list there:
Enable or Disable BSOD Automatic Restart in Windows 10

(also other info: Open a File Explorer window, paste and press Enter: %SystemRoot%
    Scroll down to: MEMORY.DMP
Open that file in Notepad, and you can possibly find exactly what made the computer crash.)

Do basics: check disk(s) - specs missing as with so many posters- , check RAM.

Eliminate RAM sticks by reducing number.

If disk check is ok, then do the routine things:

    chkdsk c: /scan
    and if ok
    SFC /SCANNOW
    - especially given the problems you list.

Then consider what changed around the time this started e.g. driver updates, including graphics.
Do the simple quick routine things first. Cover the basics.

Boot to Safe Mode- any crashes?

    Simplify, eliminate, identify.

There are many threads like this- feel free to search for and review those.

Did the scans and there are no issues. I think I did them like a month or two ago and same. Also already disabled automatic restart. I'm unable to find the memory.dmp file that way or any other way I tried. It doesn't come up in search.

There are some specs listed in my profile. If any further detail is needed then I can provide it. You understand that most people don't have to the time or energy to provide in-depth specs for every single piece of hardware and peripheral for a problem that probably doesn't pertain to any of them. It makes more sense to offer that information on an as-needed basis.

The reason I'm here is because I've used a search engine and tried all kinds of things already.

I've already done those scans and they came up with nothing. I don't know when exactly this started so I don't remember if anything changed that may have caused it, except maybe adding the graphics card as I mentioned, but I don't know. It may have been happening before. I think most of the time the computer would restart during the night so I didn't even realize it was happening or assumed it was Windows updating itself.

What would removing RAM do? Shouldn't I do a RAM scan first? I think I've already done one form of scan like that but I guess there are others.

And thank you for taking the time to reply.

I don't know what you've tried unless you state it, now do I?

Specs- doesn't take long to add specs on disks. Click My computers below my post.

    Based on previous threads.
If you have two sticks, take one out- that eliminates it.
If PC still crashes, it's probably not that.
    Then replace the first.

    Do you see the logic?

Note that RAM tests can be of many types- not every test catches all possible problems.

Anyway, as I guess from your response, it will be hard to work logically with you and you'll question everything, requiring loads of logical explanation and typing, I'll leave it to others. Good luck.

Does Device Manager have any flags ?
Are there entries in Reliability History ? To access it,in the Search box type in ---reliabilty ---
Uninstall GIMP then power off the computer for about a minute, then power on and restart.
In Powershell [admin ],type in ---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---and when finished type in ---sfc /scannow ---and run it until a clean report is given.

Thanks for your suggestions. They are appreciated. I understand the logic of removing RAM as such, just wanted to have a little more of an explanation for something that's potentially risky before I'd really found any reason to suspect it. I'm just fearful of really messing things up based on past experiences. I may try removing RAM at some point, especially if any scans indicate faults.

I've tried to remember everything I've done, but it's been a problem over months and I've forgotten things. So unfortunately it will be a case of discovery as we go along. But I think I've said just about everything at this point.

    No flags in Device manager.

Lots of entries in Reliability history.

GIMP has been an issue so getting rid of it makes sense. I've done so.

Did the restorehealth and scan and there are no issues.

Please continue to monitor Reliability History, the ---script-fu.exe ---should no longer show, having uninstalled GIMP.
If the ---Surfshark.split tunnel.Adapter64.exe ---keeps appearing, then consider removing it also or at least an uninstall/reinstall,if you need it.
