Desktop folder name is no longer localized

As the title says, my desktop folder now says "Desktop" instead of "Pulpit" like it should do. I have the desktop.ini file and it's like windows stopped looking at that file, when i change the localized resource name value to literally anything nothing changes (it should), same goes for the icon, I also don't see the icon for the desktop folder in C:\Users\myuser\, it's just the default folder icon, but it does show up on the pinned quick access folder. Right clicking I get no option to change the folder name (greyed out) and clicking on location it is set to C:\Users\myuser\Desktop so that isn't a problem. Clicking restore defaults does nothing too. How can I fix this? I did attempt to do a google search and found a solution to recreate the .ini file but that doesn't work..

    OS is windows 10 home 22h2 19045.3930

I don't think it's going to work, I already tried recreating the ini or changing the value to a different string

What does this Registry entry now show?
    Key - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    Entries - Desktop and, if it exists, {754AC886-DF64-4CBA-86B5-F7FBF4FBCEF5}

    All the best,

yeah but i feel like this is going to cause some trouble, since the folder name is always desktop and changing might break smth

    matis,

Sorry, I should have been clearer.
I was addressing Hearsepilot. Like you, I regard that renaming method as unorthodox and I don't know what its results would be.
[But I would be perfectly comfortable with renaming it using a recognised method.]

    Your Registry entries look normal.
The entry {754AC886-DF64-4CBA-86B5-F7FBF4FBCEF5} is sometimes called the Local Desktop path. I've never understood its significance.
Windows makes & re-makes that {754AC886-DF64-4CBA-86B5-F7FBF4FBCEF5} entry whenever it feels like it.
In your position, I'd make a new system image then delete the {754AC886-DF64-4CBA-86B5-F7FBF4FBCEF5} entry but for no other reason than I don't understand it but do know it has some relationship to something that is not working properly.

A system image is a copy, a backup of the contents of a drive that can be copied back to that drive to restore it to its original condition in the event of system corruption or hardware failure.
    For example,
    - I made a system image of the main disk in my computer before running Windows update the other day so that I could restore the computer to its previous state if the update went crazy.
    - I make a new system image every month I always intend to make a new system image every month.
    - I restored a system image to a replacement disk when my disk became defective a while back. I bought a new disk and was back up and running within half an hour of it being delivered.

A system image is made using a system imaging facility that has access to all parts of the disk [whereas us mere mortals would be very hard put to get sufficient access to all parts of the disk to copy every Windows file correctly].

A system image turns a catastrophe into a mere hindrance. Within half an hour you can be back to whatever state you were in before the catastrophe took place.

    Common system imaging utilities include
1 Macrium reflect [see my notes in another thread for links to a tutorial & other resources] - This used to have a free version but that is being changed to only being free for a trial period.
2 Acronis True Image [I use this]
3 AOMEI Backupper - Free version - This has a reputation for being very easy to use.
4 EaseUS ToDo Backup - Free version
5 Paragon Backup & Recovery - Free version

If you are not using system imaging then your computer is at risk.
If you are baffled by the range of choices then I suggest you start using the free version of Aomei every month and then worry about whether one of the others is better later on.

    All the best,
    Denis

I don't think it will, that name is just an aesthetic name, windows will refer to it by it's GUID internally.
