    copy folder view customization

I am having a problem of the global folder view setting not applying to specific folders such as "Downloads" even though these folders remain optimized for 'General items'

Despite enabling 'Apply to folders' in the View tab of a directory after arranging the columns as preferred, the issue of unaffected directories arises.

Considering the solution to this problem may be elusive outright, is there a way to 'paint' the view settings of another folder onto a misbehaving target folder? Last resort there are some open source folder view setting apps that may apply.

    To fix downloads folder view:

WinSetView | Globally Set Explorer Folder Views

    Refer to:

    WinSetView Manual

    Note   Note

    Folder Type List
    Downloads

As of Windows 10 1903, the Downloads folder is its own folder type that has an annoying default setting of group by date. More details on this can be found in the Background section later in this document. WinSetView will not only let you override that default, but will also reset all current views that are grouped.

You can leave Inherit checked and just let Downloads use your Global settings, or uncheck Inherit and select specific settings for this folder type. Be assured, either way, if you set Group by to (None) you will never see grouping in this folder again.

Note: In Windows 10, only the Downloads root is type “Downloads”. In Windows 11, all subfolders of Downloads are also type “Downloads”.

As @Callender noted, you can use WinSetView to set those folder views as you want.

It will definitely work, but if you're still interested in "painting" the view settings of another folder, I have a companion program that does just that: FolderViewPainter.

The web page provides more for details.
