Need to Move All W10 Notepad Files to W11

Last summer. my computer froze after many years of service. I suspect I was hit with Malware. I hired a local computer specialist to help me get running again. My guess is that he did not include my Username.

Now, I am clearing out the old computer for a new one.

Right now the Windows 10 machine seems to be working okay, save for the not being able to extract the entire lot of my Notepad files. I want to capture all of my Notepad files from the Windows 10 and then port them to the new computer, the Window 11 machine.

Woefully, despite a lot of searching, I have not found a way to do that.

The following article started off well, but I quickly stalled..
It states: "Notepad files are usually kept in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming.

I have not been able to find a "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming" app. anywhere.

Do you have a way for me extract all my Notepad files and port them to the Window 11 machine?

    Thanks.

    10 User Name Concern
i have not been able to find my current Windows 10 Username in any setting.

Could this be a way to capture one or more Notepad files without a stated system Username?

If so how would I establish a Username this late date? If I need to set a Username how to I do that?

    Thanks again.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

By default most documents are stored in C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\Documents or Pictures or Downloads or Videos or Music. Usually no issue in simply copying each of those folders to a USB Thumb drive then copy the contents of those folders to the same place on the new computer. The time involved to do it will depend upon the size of the files and hw many there are. If files can't be found simply do a search for the extensions of the file name, e.g. .txt, .jpg, .png, .mp3, etc. Most programs can be set to save to other locations, check a program's File, Save as may give the last place a file was saved.

C:\Users\Username\AppData\ and subfolders may be Hidden, in File Explorer, click the 3 horizontal dots on the toolbar then Options, click View tab to make changes.

    Maybe I am misinterpreting ....??

Maybe I should just pick them up in 10 and send the items to W11 with no further ceremony?

I do not want to lose any of my content in the transition?

If you want to memorize anything of the circle of fifths, this sequence is definitely it!
You can use a mnemonic device to remember the order of the sharps, like: Father-Christmas-Gave-Dad-An-Electric-Blanket.

File Explorer, click the 3 horizontal dots on the toolbar
On Win10 that may be under View or Options on the toolbar.

That is to get to the place where the one can unhide folders which the AppData is, hidden.

Once the folders are found they can be copied to removable storage which then can be plugged into the new computer and data copied.

Is this what you have in mind? Where did you find the table. I have found it somewhere in my past but cannot pin it down.

    From the Internet.

You can find the Windows Folder Options by performing the following:

Press Win + E to open File Explorer.

Alternatively, try the various ways to open File Explorer.
Click File in the top-left corner.
From there, select Change folder and search options to open the Folder Options window.

The files will be where you saved them. Seems your first task is to find where you put them.

If you don't know where you saved them, then use a free 3rd party tool to index your drive, then do a search.

'Everything' by voidtools is popular. Free. You will need to know at least one file name.

Or you could try searching for all txt files and look down the list and see if there's one you recognise.

Once you know where they are, copying them off the disk is trivial.

Did you try searching the computer?
Go to search and type in *.*txt and press Enter.
If you computer has been indexed for Search, it should list every Notepad file on the computer and where it is located.

If you have given any Notepad file you saved a name, you can also search by File Name, and if search finds it, it should list location where all of your Notepad files are.
As stated, save them to a USB Flash Drive and move them to the Windows 11 computer.

As was mentioned with Everything.exe, use that! Install and run then go above under "Search" and chose "Document." BAM! All text documents show up. Now highlight them all and use the right click copy/paste maneuver. It's that simple.

You could also simply type in .TXT to search for files that have the .txt file extension.

There is no folder called C:\Users\Username

You need to replace Username with your login name. So if you login as Joe, then look for C:\Users\Joe

Or in your case UserName might be Owner (ie) Browse to C:\Users\Owner or whatever your User Name is.
