Ticky-tack! Symbol pops up on desktop upon Misspelling (?)

    version 22H2
    build 19045.3803

    Greetings
Occasionally a symbol pops up in the upper left corner of my desktop.
(If I could find it, I wouldn't be here!)

It also disappears quickly and I have not fully retained it.
What I think it looks like:

    Portrait-rectangular, about an inch high.
Contains an exclamation mark made up of a thermometer-style gauge, and contains a sun-icon. So like a brightness indicator or control?

Except my impression is that it pops up when I miss-type something. Not by any means every time (or it would never be absent!)
Not, I think, the same miss--typing every time, but it always comes by surprise so I don't know.

The other thing I wonder is if it is in fact a brightness widget. I'm sure it always happens after a combination of two keyboard
actions, like a capital letter. So could I be accidentally typing a command that calls it up?

Thank you for your patience if you've gotten this far! It's not an important matter; just curious/annoying.

    denno

    Is this what you mean?
Ticky-tack! Symbol pops up on desktop upon Misspelling (?)-display_brightness_icon1.png

If so, it's the icon for Display brightness but probably disappears too quickly for you to read the description.

Alternatively, it might be this one:

Ticky-tack! Symbol pops up on desktop upon Misspelling (?)-dell_screen_brightness_icon.png

That's the Screen brightness icon which, on my Dell laptop, in invoked using the Fn+F11/F12 keys.

    Hope this helps...

    Sounds like Weather notification.

Guru Rick----yeah, it's the second one. And I could easily be hitting the Fn key when I am going for the Shift. I dunno if I'm also hitting F11/F12, tho. But maybe could if I'm after the keys below them. (I'm an awful typist!)

This is a sort of relief; I always take that pop-up (I think there's a sound, too) as emphasizing a typing mistake and on some level it pisses me off. Now it'll be just an admonition to be accurate----you know the bumper sticker: "Word Processor Control is hitting the key you're thinking of,"

    Thanks!

Naw....That one shows a giant snowflake and says, "LOOK OUT THE WINDOW ALREADY!"
    'Round 8" and continuing...."

Note that many laptops wll let you swap the Fn behavior. That is, you can set it so that Fn is for F1-F12 or Fn is for brightness, volume, etc.

Mine was set as the former, by default, but I switched it because I use F2 and F3 a lot. I'd rather hold down Fn for brightness and volume.

Maybe yours is already the same as mine and you're just accidentally hitting Fn sometimes.

Well, not that exactly, as I use Fn with my direction keys.
But I'll check this out, thanks. It isn't Fn+F10-11, either. Just now, tho', I typed a capital I, space, backspace and it happened. Didn't work upon repeat.
Kinda off my mind as it is no longer seeming to tell me I misspelled something.....
