Can't hide the "System Volume Information" folder on an External HDD

    Greetings, folks -

Simply put, why can't I hide the "System Volume Information" folder on an External HDD?
I select hide from the Properties but nothing happens.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hello Brian,

Usually the "System Volume Information" folder will have both the S (System) and H (Hidden) attributes assigned to it.

attrib +s +h "full path of folder"

Set or Unset Hidden Attribute of Files and Folders in Windows 10

    Right.

The device is hanging off a router via USB.
I'm curious as to why the Hide option doesn't work in Properties? Can't understand that. Bug?

    Thanks.

Could be. Did the command hide it for you?

It's a mapped external drive. Do I have to use the full path?

    attrib +s +h "Z:\System Volume Information"

So that wont work for the SVI Folder.

Odd. It should work if the drive is using the NTFS file system.

Ah. It's Fat32. Silly router firmware won't support NTFS. Netgaer RAXE500.

No other way? I may have to call them. 2GB HDD.

What are the USB drive requirements for ReadySHARE on my NETGEAR router? - NETGEAR Support

Edit - Let me check again and I will report back. There seems to be a firmware update. Will attempt to change to NTFS format after update.
