    Strange behaviour

My laptop has lately become a nightmare to operate. Every time I try to open a file, no matter type, txt, excel or other,
my laptop responds with "Do you want to delete this file?" What is wrong, and where do I seek to resolve this problem?
    Thanks

What's the make and model of the computer? Show the full Version of Windows, press WinKey + R and type winver, post the full line that starts with Version. Has any third-party customization been installed?

    Version 21H2 (build 19044, 1889)
The laptop is an old HP EliteBook 6930p.
Now I discovered that when I set cursor at the beginning of this text, all text was deleted.
Maybe there is something wrong with my external keyboard?
    I have to test that. . . .

It sounds like you have a stuck key on the external keyboard. Does the laptop keyboard work? Can you unplug the external keyboard and see if it has the same problem?
Try a different External USB keyboard.

Same result with the external keyboard unplugged. So I have to look at the internal keyboard I guess.
Thanks a lot for pointing to a possible solution. Now I know how to spend my Xmas holidays. Merry Christmas.

    Please boot to Safe Mode.
Do you see the same problem then?

To check further and independently of the installed O/S boot your laptop from some bootable disk that allows you to type strings of characters.

You might boot from a Win 10 install disk and via 'Repair your computer' and the Advanced Startup blue screens to a command prompt, for example.

A better check would be to boot from a live boot disk (Google if unfamiliar). However you'd need another PC to create one, from the sound of it.

If you still have problems typing you know it's a hardware issue.

I think it would be worth finding out how does it behaves if you only use your mouse [both with and without keyboards connected].

It still sounds like a stuck key. It may be on the laptop keyboard.
Unplug the USB External Keyboard and Disable the laptop keyboard
How to Disable the Built-In Laptop Keyboard in Windows
Now plug the USB Keyboard in and see if that works for you.

Thank you guys for trying to help.
There were no stuck key, all was well till the laptop reached a certain temperature. Then the problem started again.
I guess there was an issue withe the main board.
    The solution: New laptop.

Good to know. Sometimes it takes awhile for the right combination of things to make a problem show up. My wife's Notebook was showing issues with slowness and sometimes not charging, after a week I moved it to my work area and happened to use a different AC adapter [same brand] and the problems came to light, she had a new battery but the AC adapter was failing, changed it.
