    Acer Aspire Laptop Shuts Down Low Battery - No Warning

    My 2021 Acer Aspire laptop used to warn me when battery is very low when I first had it. Now for some reason it just shuts down without warning. I looked at the battery setting and the warning is set to on. Any ideas how to stop this annoying habit. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, all credit to you for still using old hardware. (This is about 8-9 years old).

    With which build of Win 10 did this last work properly?

    Which build (the forum prompted you) does it run now?) E.g. 19045.3803

    Running a machine as old as that with Win 10 gives you no guarantee of reliable performance, as I'm sure you know.

    Sorry Dalchina. It's a 2021 - only 2 years old. Typing mistake. Have corrected op.

    @3nd - You are, of course, welcome to your opinion, just as I am when I say I'm certain that a large asteroid will strike the Earth next July.

    @woodbine - thanks.

    1. Have you checked the battery ACTION settings (low and critical)?
    2. Have you tried restoring the defaults for your power plan?

    Some of my settings:

    3. Is the shutdown the normal graceful shutdown, or abrupt?

    Hello Dalchina

    Thanks for your reply and apologies for my very late reply. In answer to your questions;

    1) I have checked the settings in battery action settings. All are the same as yours in your screen shots, except the last one - "Critical Battery Action". Where both of yours say 'sleep', my both say 'hibernate'.

    2) Haven't tried restoring default power - do you suggest I try it now?

    3) It's a very abrupt shutdown. No warning, just flashes up "Power Supply Is Very Low" on the screen then turns off immediately.

    1 Increase your low, reserve & critical battery levels in Power options to something ridiculously high just to prove that the mechanisms are operating - try 70%, 60%, 50%.

    If that works it can mean that your battery is so worn out that the battery levels you had set before are being reached too quickly for the warnings to appear. In other words, the battery is almost crashing once it hits a very low level and the warnings just do not have enough time to appear.

    2 And run a battery report to find out the battery condition.
    Run and interpret a battery report - my post #2 - TenForums

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    You can certainly try setting the defaults- and for test purposes increase one of the percentages to see if you can get a graceful shutdown.

    As the shutdown is abrupt there's not likely to be anything logged (event viewer).
