    Non-existent files in Recycle Bin

This problem is driving me round the bend. After I started using OneDrive to backup my files I started collecting items in Recycle Bin which don't exist but can't be deleted either. As far as I can tell it happens if I delete a folder in OneDrive online rather than deleting it first in my local OneDrive folder so I don't do that any longer. However I'm left with five folder names in Recycle Bin which are proving impossible to remove. I've even resorted to a Win 10 repair install in the hope of them disappearing but even that hasn't sorted it. I guess they are in the master file table but neither sfc nor chkdsk touches them.

This isn't a criticism of OneDrive, which seems to work fine even if a little slow to pick up changed files. BT Cloud from my ISP is far superior in that department. However I suspect it could be pulled before too long leaving me without a online backup service or access to older backups stored there.

Any further thoughts would really be welcome.

Try creating a new dummy text file on your desktop for example, and then delete it (it will then be in the recycle bin).
If you now (right click) empty the recycle bin (with this dummy text file in it), the other contents in the recycle bin may also be deleted. Maybe that will work.

Thanks SPB. Tried that numerous times - everything gets deleted apart from the 5 folders.

OK. The folders I couldn't delete had formerly been in C:/Users/<username>/OneDrive. As they wouldn't delete from Recycle Bin I had tried to restore them, but that had failed too with the message they couldn't be found. In a try anything mood I did a repair install and, although I didn't realise it immediately, it had enabled the folders to be found in Explorer, and once restored to their original location they could then be deleted correctly and the Recycle Bin emptied. You could have also logged into your OneDrive account online https://onedrive.live.com/login/ and Deleted the files from there.

Whenever I see a problem given as: "blah blah blah One Drive blah blah blah" ... the problem is obvious.
    It's right there: One Drive.

The solution is simple: get rid of One Drive.

Really. One Drive is just bloody hell. Get rid of it.

If it happens again, do consider these procedures even though they are not aimed specifically at this particular symptom
