    Searchapp.exe and cortanaui are crashing

I suddenly started getting crashes which are related to windows search. Please see:-

It started today. Nothing was changed in windows and I haven't done any windows updates and the crashes suddenly started and they never happened before. It says cortanaui in all the pictures so I think that cortana is misbehaving.

I saw FIX: Windows 10 Search crashes and Explorer restarts (Solved) • Repair Windows™. I can try them later but method 3 is to reinstall cortana so I think that's proof that cortana is causing the problem. Am I correct?

I don't need cortana so I disabled it by using gpedit.msc by following How to Completely Disable Cortana on Windows 10. I want to ask will that stop the crashing?

Searchapp.exe is related to the taskbar search box, not to the basic function of Windows search.

Note for potential respondents- suggesting 3rd part search replacements is not relevant to this issue

I see a crash report occasionally for this- it has no practical detrimental effect.

(I don't look at imgur screenshots- please use the preferred forum features which are quicker and easier for respondents - thanks).

    Here are the pictures:-

As you can see it says cortanaui in all the pictures so I think that cortana is causing the crashes. I disabled cortana from gpedit.msc and I hid the search bar at the bottom. Will that stop the crashing?

You tell us, try searching for something.

You may have a corrupt index cache, try resetting it using Indexing Options.

I doubt the basic Windows search function and indexing is related to the app crashing. Windows indexing existed prior to the addition to taskbar search, which has a number of options whose setting may or may not be related.

Probably one difficulty is simply relating cause and effect- i.e. from my Reliability History the searchapp.exe may crash once a day. Pragmatically I'm not going to spend time checking whether it has crashed every few seconds when it has no practical impact, so I view this as 'would be nice to resolve, but can't think of a rational approach'.
