    Which key are you lacking?

    - the key you need to press to gain access to it?
    - a password- is your BIOS password protected?

    - or some other key?

    Thanks.

It's fine as long as he isn't trying to access somebody else's system; the OP states the password has been forgotten and has given no reason not to believe that.

Dear @z3r010, the computer was bought second hand. It was when I wanted to install the software that I realised. The supplier shop can't find the password for us.

That is an old 7th gen business laptop if I am not mistaken. Likely thrown out or sold off for pennies by some business that was upgrading.

On a desktop you could short-circuit the "reset bios" or "reset CMOS" contacts on the motherboard for a couple of seconds. The old school way is to remove the motherboard battery for a couple of minutes. But on a laptop is hard to access that battery... You have to google if there is a master key for your model that overrides the BIOS password and grants you access. Once there make sure to delete the password or change it so you remember is next time.

This method is a little advanced and risky. Better google for a master key or other workaround first before trying this. If he has to disassemble most of the laptop to reach these contacts, he might as well try removing the BIOS battery. It is easier to do.
