    font for passwords

    Hi,
Not sure what subforum to enter this question, so here it goes:
Windows has many fonts, and that's OK, but sometimes I need to handle some passwords (in plain text).
At that moment it becomes extremely important that a given font is "easy to read", and in case of passwords that means: the letters, numbers and whatever else should be clearly different.

Problem is, most fonts don't. Specifically letters like O and I, numbers 0 and 1 can be hard to differ.

So, my question is, what font is suited for that ?
I'm not going to try each of the tens of fonts that are on a given system (for example the ones available in Notepad) to see if one fit. In the end, none may, so I need to get another one.

Or, do one needs to invent my own font, just starting from any font basically, and changing the O and I to something more explicit. Take in mind, letters have 2 cases, so that must be included as well.

Consolas is pretty good for zero and O

but 1, lower L and upper I still look too similar

It's a tough choice, in the way they all seem bad ...

Exactly 0 of them use a slashed zero ( Slashed zero - Wikipedia )

Consolas is one the few that seems to.
This one says the same: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...8-e30b7d847822
    and also "Terminal" font

In this list I like Helvetica
but it would be better with a slashed or a dotted zero

It makes it look like nobody ever bothered, but then I don't understand why there are so many fonts anyway. Guess I have to make my own font.
But I have a name already, I'll call it : Password
Next question is whether or not I can distribute modified Windows fonts :)

    Ditto on consolas.

Other option. If in doubt copy and paste into a text editor and change fonts a few times or repeat type the password to check that letters/ numbers are what you think they are.

I would try zooming in on the page when you type the password, so you can see the letters better, then reset the zoom back to normal. Depending on your browser (I think they all use the "Ctrl + Scroll Up" shortcut), you can zoom in.

    In the picture:

    One Zero
Lower Case "L" Capital Case [oh]: "O"

I'd just remember that the "One" has that sideways little line at the top, on the left. And the "Zero" is more of a vertical-standing Oval, while the capital letter "oh", is almost a perfect circle.

That's some good options, I also copy to Notepad and then put Font size to very large
