Need to delete folder, but cannot because it's "not there"

I have a folder called "Bluthner.1.0." ... and yes, there's a dot at the end of the folder name.

I need to deleted it ... but when I try to delete it in Windows Explorer ... a popup says:
    Could not find this item.
This is no longer located in D:\
Verify the item's location and try again.

Is this a filesystem error? How do I fix it?

Did you try deleting it in Safe Mode?

I tried to rename it, thinking that the dot at the end was the problem. It would not let me.

So I restarted. Still could not delete, but I could rename the folder. Then I could delete it. All done.
