Remove new search box from taskbar

So several of my machines updated and now I got a new search box in the taskbar, and search was disabled on the machines.

So where did this one come from?

Screenshot machine version: 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3570)

Also it seems my typed run command history is not being stored either since that update which brought me this annoyance.

I had a whinge about that in an earlier post... but it's easy to fix.

Just right-click in the Search box then, when the context menu appears, choose Search > Hidden.

    Hope this helps...

PS - Thanks for the 'heads up' about the 'typed run command history'. I hadn't noticed that.

One of the recent updates 'unhid' the taskbar searchbox. Reported and mentioned elsewhere on tenforums - I think I posted about that in comments following the News item on the pertinent update.

Can be a good place to look- the News section has an article per update with user comments following, + download links.

    You say
    search was disabled
    - I've not seen that mentioned, and it's not my experience, and my Run history works as normal.

Right click on an empty section of your task bar. Go to Search and change it from "Show search box" to "Show search Icon". Do that and all that shows up is the magnifying glass icon.

Sorry about the delay in answering this but when the search box showed up, the "hide search box" was checked leading me to believe that this was something new that was installed and not merely buggy behavior.

As to the run dialog not remembering stuff, apparently something also turned off the "Show most used apps" plus greyed it out by turning off "Let Windows track app launches to improve Start and search result" so that's been solved.

Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure hide search box was ticked for me too? And toggling it got rid of it.
