oops! I forgot to mention that. Sorry. I hardly go to my homepage anymore now that I started pinning my favorite sites to the IE icon on the taskbar, then I only have to right-click and choose, for the rest of my navigation I use favorites bar.

Tabs can be confusing. I'm curious, I don't have my options set like that as shown in this below pic, but I only open one page for home.

Mine looks like yours Doug, I think one can create multiple "homepages" where it say's type each address on it's own line, and the option open only the first home page when IE starts. With homepages you can then have windows 8 forums and windows 10 forums, google search and bing home page open up when you click the home icon or the first home page unticked is. Sorta like pinning tabs in chrome.

The general driver f rom Synaptics site fails to install at least on my Windows 10. Try your PC manufacturer's site, check if they have a Windows 8 driver for the touchpad.

Another option is to check the Device Manager once again. I uninstalled the Synaptics driver just to see how the device is shown when the driver is not installed, it is "PS/2 Compatible Mouse". If you see that, right click it and select Update Driver Software and select Search automatically for updated driver software. This should find the driver and install it.This

If the device is not shown check that it's not hidden:
I'd already tried Device Manager and attempted to update the software on every HID device as well as everything Mouse related. Each time I was told Windows had decided my drivers were up to date.

This is an HP laptop 17z-f100 CTO (Energy Star). As is well known, HP doesn't recognize Windows 10 so it seems I'm on my own there; however I'll try.

Workaround is to manually disable it until next sign in from Touchpad Properties > Device Settings tab by clicking the Disable button:When done the touchpad remembers this until you sign off. This must be done again after next sign in / wakeup / reboot:Works for me, I'm rebooting / waking up the PC max once or twice a day so an extra 10 seconds is not a big deal for me.

Surprise, surprise, surprise! Normally HP doesn't recognize a beta OS, but I guess they made an exception for the TouchPad, Synaptics Mouse, Click-Pad because once I downloaded and installed the drivers for it, I was able to disable it. Wonderful!

Like you, Kari, I don't mind a small inconvenience in order to eliminate the HUGE inconvenience of a misbehaving touchpad.

    Thank you very much.
