Nope, the Store beta is hit or miss for me. I did get the preview Office apps, but when I tried this morning to look I got this message:
Bill, I haven't gotten those messages, but for now, I cannot use those Office apps. I tried to re-download, but am told I already have them on my computer. Sigh . . .

I would show a screenshot, but somehow, that to is no longer available to me; and I went to report it, opened it up and it works! Sheesh! Here's a screenie of what I see when trying to open one of the Office apps.

Absolutely no issues with any of the Office Preview apps, none of them are down, all available in Beta Store, all functioning perfectly.

The highlighted part in above quote suggests you were in the wrong store. Office Preview Apps are only available in Beta Store, which has not a single of Microsoft's Solitaire games. If you downloaded a Microsoft Solitaire which did not work, you were not in Beta Store. If you downloaded a third party Solitaire game from Beta Store and it did not work, it has naturally nothing to do with some Microsoft apps possibly not working.
I haven't a clue as to how I could possibly get in the wrong store, since that's the only one on this computer, which is marked Store (beta). Unless clicking on that tile takes me to another store, then logic tells me I'm in the Beta Store.

There is nothing installed on this laptop except Windows 10, Build 9926, the Office preview in question (does not work) Solitaire HD (works) Mahjong Solitaire (works), MS Solitaire Collection (does not work), Spider Solitaire (does not work), and my Office 365 subscription (which works fine).

I do not download from third party vendors unless I go to their official site. I download Irfanview from its official site (haven't downloaded in aeons), In fact, I download very few apps, since my needs are simple. Since Solitaire is the only "game" I play, the Store (Beta) should be sufficient for these simple games.

If you downloaded a third party Solitaire game from Beta Store and it did not work, it has naturally nothing to do with some Microsoft apps possibly not working.
Strangely, I get exactly the same error as I get with every other app that fails; "Check the Windows Store for more info about MS Solitaire Collection". Of course the name of the app replaces "MS . . .

I checked this morning and still have the same errors.

    Not so:

    Attachment 13728

But I have no idea if it will run if downloaded from that source. I downloaded from the Standard "Store".

But if I understand Wynona, the Word App was downloaded but would not open (with the message). I had the same experience. I had previously installed it and used it. I tried cleaning it out, uninstalling , and deleting from the registry, with no success. A new Windows 10 installation did the trick, however. I cannot find where the info is being held.
One addition I had, as well as the message, was that I need to have 365 installed to be able to run Word.

I only suggested you might have been using the wrong store. Both the "real" Windows Store and Store (Beta) are present and available by default in Windows 10 Build 9926 and as you mentioned that you noticed Solitaire while in store and also it did not work when downloaded, my conclusion was both oblivious and only possible:
    • If you downloaded a Microsoft solitaire game, you were most definitely in the wrong store because the Store Beta has not a single Microsoft Solitaire available, they are all from third party software makers.
    • If the Solitaire game was indeed from Store Beta, it must be a third party product and therefore it working or not really has nothing to do with some Microsoft apps working or not.

    That's all I suggested.

You are right Dave; I have downloaded two single solitaire games from the Store (Beta). I downloaded a Klondike lookalike and a Mahjong single, both of which work. Go figure.

I downloaded all of the Office apps when they first came out and all worked at that time. Every one opened and I never got any of the messages I'm getting now.

I haven't uninstalled or deleted from the registry, but since you have, I won't go there. :) Just call me a coward.

Since I already have my Office 365 subscription running on Windows 10, I haven't seen that message, but for what it's worth, if that's the case (must have O365) then they're pretty much useless for the general populace. Why subscribe to a full-blown Office when you can have everything you need in the built-in (probably crippled to some extent) Office apps.

Dave, the "MS Solitaire Collection" shown in your screenshot is a third party app, nothing to do with Microsoft. I repeat: the Store (Beta) has not a single Microsoft solitaire app.

No, the Office 365 apps do not require Office 365 subscription.

The three Office apps (Excel Preview, PowerPoint Preview, Word Preview) are most definitely not available through the normal Windows Store, nor have they been. They are only available, have only been available through Store (Beta).

Kari, I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. Right now, there are those of us who seem to have had problems with the Store (Beta). From that I can draw two conclusions; (1) There is definitely something wrong with the Store (Beta) for some folks. (2) Not everyone has a problem with the Store (Beta). Remember the Windows 8.1 Sleep Problem?

If you downloaded a Microsoft solitaire game, you were most definitely in the wrong store because the Store Beta has not a single Microsoft Solitaire available, they are all from third party software makers.
For clarification purposes only, I only said Solitaire; however, what I downloaded was MS Solitaire Collection. And yes, I know I was in the Store (Beta) because I had just attempted to reinstall the Windows 10 Office Preview apps. Further, for clarification purposes, until you told me this morning, I was not aware that the regular Store was available to me. I don't understand why there should be a difference between MS apps and third party apps. They should all work when downloaded and installed, right?

Bottom line is that I was in the Store (Beta) which, to me, now makes more sense. With the exception of the New Spider Solitaire which gives the same results but also reports that it needs to be repaired, all the apps that don't work are Microsoft apps.

I will check out your links to see if they will help. Thanks.

Some points IMO worth to clarify:

    • The "MS Solitaire Collection" available through Store (Beta) is an app from "X Apps Studio", I cannot find any information about this software maker but you can be quite sure it has nothing to do with Microsoft
    • An app from an unknown software maker like the "X Apps Studio" mentioned above not installing or when installed not working has most definitely nothing to do with an official Microsoft app not working
    • The Store (Beta) is not nor have it been down
    • The Microsoft Preview apps are not nor have they been down. If an MVP has told so, he / she should check his / her sources as this is simply not true
    • The Office Preview apps do not require an Office 365 subscription. However, they do require the user to be signed in to Windows with an MS Account. This warning from the Ten Forums tutorial:

      Note   Note
Please notice that at the moment the Office Apps for Windows 10 are still Preview and only available for Windows 10 through the Beta Store. Using the normal Windows Store will not let you install the Office Apps. This tutorial will be updated as the situation changes.

You need to sign in to Windows with an MS Account in order to be able to install the Office Preview apps. They won't install when using a local account and signing in to Store (Beta) with a separate email.
    • As with everything with Windows, the fact that some users have some issues with some apps does not mean that generally these apps are "down". As with any other Windows issues we should not generalize these issues but instead look for the cause for this in our own computer. Store and Store Apps are known to sometimes have difficulties to run, the links I posted earlier show some of the most typical reasons for that and how to resolve them
