,,, if that were true we all would be using Linux now,and throw windows out the door . ,and you or me and the rest of the members here will likely never do that completely
No, not completely. We would run one Windows in virtual under Linux just for the few programs where we cannot find a native equivalent in Linux. But maybe they will improve the Wine to a point where even that won't be necessary any more.

………….., but the possibility to set up Windows 8 and later with a local user account is present very clearly and is well documented.........

…………..Had one of my sleepless nights last week, posted this in a thread at Seven Forums:

Great tutorial, Kari. That makes it as plain as day.

If MS doesn’t sell services, the other two will, then eventually no MS. Then what? Linux or the other two?

    The ReactOS Project?

    ReactOS Project
ReactOS® is a free open source operating system based on the best design principles found in the Windows NT® architecture (Windows versions such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 are built on Windows NT architecture). Written completely from scratch, ReactOS is not a Linux based system, and shares none of the UNIX architecture.

The main goal of the ReactOS® project is to provide an operating system which is binary compatible with Windows. This will allow your Windows® applications and drivers to run as they would on your Windows system. Additionally, the look and feel of the Windows operating system is used, such that people accustomed to the familiar user interface of Windows® would find using ReactOS straightforward. The ultimate goal of ReactOS® is to allow you to use it as alternative to Windows® without the need to change software you are used to.

ReactOS 0.3.17 is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Screenshots on Google remind me of WP for DOS or other stuff on Win 3.0, then 3.1 x on a 386 I started out with many many moons ago and later maybe up to ~ win 95/98 on my ancient long gone K6 450 super 7 build .............. I'll be sticking with W 10 x64 for the daily driver here and 7 x64 on the other 2 PC's until Win 10 is done .

I could be wrong but it looks like it's stuck in the pre win XP era (at least looking at the screenshots )
might have it's uses for some folks though when it gets baked some more .

Does it have services? Doesn’t matter what “older” geeks want. It’s what business and the general public are buying.

Windows NT was one of the worst OS'es ever thought of - especially for desktops --no plug'n play and a real pain to get ANY extra hardware to work. Windows NT should be totally confined to where it belongs --on the garbage heap.

The motto for that project should be "Yesterday's Technology Tomorrow" !!!! --We really are talking about Dinosaur Technolgy here.

If you want Windows --well maybe I'm getting a bit confused - but isn't Windows already available in all sorts of versions. !!

Windows 10 currently is doing just fine.

I still use Linux too --both have their uses for all sorts of tasks. I certainly can't see a typical user switching from Apple or Windows to Linux unless they are using something like an Android tablet and then that's only good for a few limited functions like watching movies, doing email or surfing the net..

    Cheers
