My account that was corrupted was also a MS account. As a test, I have switched all accounts to local accounts & created a new profile for the corrupted account. So far they have not become corrupted. It's been about 2 weeks, so hopefully I have not jinxed myself.

I have not done any resets because it seems like its a corruption within a specific user account and not windows.

I saw this on another ten forums from another user:
I found that opening task manager and doing an end task on the Local Security Authority Process ( 5 )would reboot the computer and clear the error.

Press Ctrl Alt Del buttons at the same time . The Task Manager window opens. Then locate the process I mentioned above. Right click it and choose end task. Wait while the computer reboots.

I haven't had the chance to try it, but wondered if you've seen this (or anyone else on this thread). And, I was wondering if it worked for them.

REALLY wish MS would fix this problem!!!!
I just got the lovely notification again, and my windows is once again as responsive as someone in a coma.

I also tried what you suggested with ending the "Local Security Authority Process ( 5 )" It was (3) in my case, but it still made no difference once it was booted.

This has got to be the weirdest bug I have encountered on a operative system ever. I only used local account this time, and it still made no difference. No one has heard anything official from MS about this yet? I tried finding something, but everything was from beta builds, and it seems like they think it's completely fixed in the retail version...

That really stinks!! I was hoping a local account was safe from this, but I guess not. I haven't seen any new posts about this either, have you? I would love to find out how to resolve it as I'm sure you would too!

Since I am really loathe to do a clean install and have to re-install all my programs, file associations, etc. I broke down and picked up a third party start menu that works just fine and pretty much reverted the start menu back to windows 7 style. Kinda sucks, I have Windows 10 with a windows 7 menu overlay on it. But, until MS sorts this out, it's what I'm going with.

Tried that solution, didn't work.... I don't get notifications either as my start menu has problems about once after 30 days since a reinstall (my original install was done on August 11, Start Menu error on September 8 so did a in-place upgrade on September 12 only to have the problem again on October 16). In all cases, it is after booting up and logging in when it happens as what also happens is HDD Health will fail saying it is unable to write C:\Program Files (x86)\HDD Health\_identity.bin with like 50+ windows until Windows Explorer kills it. When Start Menu works, HDD Health works fine.

alternatives to a clean install MAY work

Try reindexing - you will find this in control panel. In the search box top right type indexing. Go to Indexing Options, on the first window click advanced, on the one that appears after you have clicked advanced, click on Rebuild

    Another try
On an elevated cmd prompt type powershell then Enter
    on the cmd that appears next copy and paste Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
    Enter

The OS should have done a backup automatically - go to control panel (Backup and Restore) and try to Restore.

Win10 start button does not work

A right-click on start works, except for search. A left-click and nothing happens.

Could someone give me some ideas please.

Right click has never failed... I noticed that Cortana is dead too when left doesn't work.

Win10 Start button does not work

right click on start button shows entire menu - "search" function is not working
left click on start button has no effect at all - you keep seeing the start button as if someone never touched it.
    sfc /scannow gives no problems
ran the snazziest antivirus and antimalwares
couldn't run combofix since it s not compatible with Win10
I already restored the system image from a prior backup to no avail
I don't know if I run older system images it will work
I'll keep om trying, but if someone has a bright idea don't forget to share it, please.

For me, issue seems to be domain related

I've had the same issue, but have realized that it is only when I log on as a domain user (either when I logon to the local machine or the domain, doesn't matter if I am using my domain login). If I login as the local user, I have my start menu.
    Anyone else?
