How do I update program icons in Windows search?

    Hello,

I installed a new version of LibreOffice, this version has new icons.

When I search for LibreOffice, Writer, Calc, etc. in Windows search, it shows the icons from the previous version that I uninstalled. Is it possible to somehow update the icons in "Windows Search"? Rebuilding the search index didn't help.

    Thank you.

Hi, can you please post a screenshot showing
    a. the files with their current (presumably) updated icons

    with one showing

    b. the same files as found by Windows search

(I wouldn't expect the index to have anything to do with how the files are represented- compare the effect of changing the program associated with a file).

I found folder where are those old thumbnails stored:

    %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\AppIconCache\100

If I add "jpg" extension to those files I see old thumbnails. As you can see, all those files has pretty recent date, so this "cache" is periodically automatically refreshed?

Is here any command or scheduled task which can I use refresh it immediately?

Deletion of those files will probably fix my issue, but I dont want to go this way, if this cache will be refreshed automatically.

Hi, I have now updated Libre Office to 7.5.5 (new icons).

If I search for e.g. *.xlsx - then those files are shown with the updated (new) icons, as in my case xlsx files are associated with Libre Office.

I simply installed the update- no restart, then performed a search.

    No problem found.

For me too if I search for files, but try search for program itself (LibreOffice, Math, Calc, Writer...).

    Thank you for your reply.

Which sort of search in particular?

    - for the exe file from the (taskbar) dialogue?
    - for the exe file from file explorer's search box?
    - simply for the program from the (taskbar) dialogue?
    - using the search box in Open Shell (my start menu)?
    - some other way?

    Screenshot please.

Screenshots are on my first post.

Search in start menu or in search bar/icon: Calc or Writer or Math etc. just type these words.

Ok, they simply haven't used the new icons in the start menu shortcuts.

You could create your own shortcuts and replace those in the start menu:

As you can see in my first post screenshot, in my Start menu I have new icons, but only search show old.

Ah, I've been slow on this. Initially I thought of search as being search for any file associated with Libre Office, but you solely mean search for its shortcuts.

As I showed in Open Shell, the representation after updating to v7.5.5 was still the old icons, whilst in fact the icons of the shortcuts in the underlying folder proved to be the new ones.

This worked to correct how they are shown by Open Shell:
Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10

but not for a search via the search box (Win key + s, or by default shown on the taskbar).

    More cache clearing options:
Rebuild Corrupt Icon Cache, Clear Thumbnail cache in Windows 11/10

    - but even that hasn't helped.

Suggest question be asked in a Libre Office forum.
