Hi again. I messed around in safe mode for a while, but without going into details, I got locked out and was never able to test if the semicolon was working. I was able to get back into my computer, and the colon key still is not working. However, I need my computer for something important tomorrow and again later next week, so I'm going to leave it be for now. I think I'm going to just reinstall windows next weekend. I'm not sure there's much of anything on my C drive that I need.

    Thanks for letting us know.

When you clean install, and as early as you can, start using 3rd party disk imaging - before you start installing much and configuring. I.e. before something breaks.

E.g. Aomei Backupper, Macrium Reflect - free versions are ok. Plus e.g. a large enough external drive for your image files.

Then periodically e.g. weekly, monthly- depends how much changes on your PC- create e.g. a differential image (smaller and faster).

That way- even if your system disk fails or your PC is stolen - you have a means of recovery.

Also ensure System Restore is enabled. I have a restore point created on schedule daily - Tutorial available.

    Much safer than a colonoscopy.

I decided to just reset windows. I kind of wanted a fresh reset anyway. Spent about an hour moving some things to my other drive, which wasn't too bad. Now my keyboard is working perfectly :)

They do say that a colonoscopy is the gold standard.

Now you have learnt how necessary it is to be prepared..

How are you going to avoid problems, give yourself a second chance, and hopefully avoid a reset or clean install?

    - 3rd party disk imaging - endlessly recommended here
    - scheduled creation/ use of System Restore points (tutorials available).

But you're doing that already, aren't you?
