    Can't turn off Aero Peek

What the heck is going on, can't be turned off no matter what option registry, system properties, taskbar settings.

Is MS forcing this crap on us now?

I don't want to set a ridiculous hover time. Why can't this simply be disabled?

    Hello,

Just to confirm, did you try the options below?

    absolutely, made no difference

What blows me away not even the hover time reg mod works. It is like MS is forcing this feature if you like it or not.

My guess is this is either a bug in the latest version or MS is just forcing this now like it or not. I've tested this on 4 different Win 10 machines all behave the same with the latest version 22H2 19045.3208

Can someone else confirm on the same version i'm not crazy here.

You might try build 19045.3271 below to see if it works again in it.

Is that the version you are on yourself and is it working? Curious if anyone else is on the same release version I'm on which is not a preview build and it behaves the same.

Generally unless enough people report the problem it will not get fixed by MS. I don't see anything in the preview release notes indicating they have addressed this problem in the preview build. Rather not go after a goose chase. It is annoying for sure but not the end of the world. There is other annoyances I have found in Win 10 as well this is just one of them.

It works for me in that build.

Just to confirm and note, this doesn't turn off the "Show Desktop" button on the taskbar corner when you click on it.

It's only to turn on/off Aero Peek to show the desktop when you hover on the "Show Desktop" button instead.

When you state it works in that build you mean the current build I'm on or the Preview you linked?

I see what you are saying. I think we are talking about two different things. i don't care about the "Show Desktop" button at the end of the taskbar, although i have that turned off and it makes no difference.

I'm simply talking about hovering over the taskbar on a program or explorer etc, and the preview windows pops up. Perhaps I'm calling it the wrong name and its not aero peak but something else.

I'm at a loss why it is behaving this way for me and not for you. I have tested this on Pro and Home versions. I will need to test Enterprise build too see if its the same.

I'm talking about these previews what ever they are called. I know in Windows 7 you could turn them off but in 10 since the upgrade I can't turn it off and I assume this was the aero peak option

I'm pretty sure unless it is completely called something else the thumbnail preview is related to aero peek.

Here is another website with the reference to aero peek as well for what i'm trying to disable

This reg key works but it only masks it really if you ask me.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
    Explorer\Advanced

Dword labeled ExtendedUIHoverTime, then change the value to 300000.

Yeah, that was for the latest public preview build.

It sounds like you are wanting to disable taskbar thumbnail previews below like the link you posted. It's only a workaround to disable it since there's not a direct on/off toggle.

Got it thanks, I'm a little bit surprised like in the past from what i recall the Aero peek was always tied to the taskbar thumbnail preview and now with windows 10 they got away from that. You can see like the site i linked they still have that linked. Curious if this is always the way it was with initial win10 release or it is more recent but this was never an issue with Win7.

Oh well for anyone else having the same issue at least they know the work around now.
