Windows 7 upgraded to 10 now stopped booting

Sorry I can't add my Windows Version Number as the machine won't boot.

After many happy years using the same PC on Windows 7 (up to a few weeks ago) I finally did the free upgrade to Windows 10 and things went downhill from then on.

The machine finally packed up booting earlier this week and now I’m lost without it.

I get to the repair windows screen but it cannot repair the startup.

I took the SSD out of the machine and used a SATA to USB adaptor to copy the files from it (just drag & drop) but I would really like to get the PC booting again.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Normally it is easy to fix
Now that you have the SSD on a case and plugged on another computer:
    1) Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk c: /f If it ask to un mount the drive = yes

    2) please post a whole window Disk Manager image of ALL your drives. Don't forget to expand the columns so we can read them. How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
If you have a MiniTool or AOMEI Partition use it instead or Windows disk manager.

When you get the Troubleshooting Menu, if Startup Repair fails, you have other options. You can go to the Command Prompt and type bootrec /rebuildbcd and press Enter.
If you created a bootable USB flash drive from the Windows 10 1SO image using the Media Creation Tool, you can boot off of that. To access the Command Prompt, Worse case scenario is you can do a Clean Install of Windows 10 Deleting the Windows 7 partitions.

As the disk may be old, and no history given that might account for failure, run a quick SMART check on your disk.. get a copy of Crystal Diskinfo (free) - instant result on its GUI.

    Just a note:

As you can access files on your disk, an approximate way is to simply examine the properties of e.g. explorer.exe

Try creating Macrium Reflect's boot disk on another PC. (Install MR, run it, then use the option available to create the boot disk).

Put your SSD back in the original PC, and boot that from MR's boot disk.

MR's boot disk has a useful 'Fix boot' feature.

Try that, capture any report and post the result.

The other drives in the desktop are 2x WD in a raid 1 & 2x Optical drives.

While I'm having this issue I've disconnected everything but the SSD.

I ran the Macrium Reflect's boot disk and selected repair boot.

After the reboot I got the following message:

    Inaccessible Boot Device

I checked the BIOS and the Samsung was the main boot device (I pulled the USB stick at reboot)

The Samsung is connected to a Marvell 9128 controller that can operate in AHCI or IDE mode, this was always set as AHCI in Windows 7 could that be the issue? I've checked though and it is set as AHCI.
