Restart solves weird startup dots on desktop etc.

On an old hp 15-f11dx I have no issues except a periodic display problem. W10 home (ver 22H2) tells me all drivers are up to date, has all updates as well. Yet sometimes I get pond water circles, usually on L of screen, in a vertical line. Mouse will typically not be very responsive and odd windows may crop up. A reboot one or more times clears up the problem, usually, although the dots may occur later.

I haven't found any explanation on MS site(s) or elsewhere. A search here so far doesn't yield any answers. I've found steps to go into Compatibility mode but the problem is not related to any program. Tried deleting display driver and a reboot. I think it has to do with display driver...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mac

    Welcome to TenForums!

Let's take a look at this first...

You had noted that a reboot may clear up the issue. As a result, I'm wondering if you can tell me if this problem only happens after starting the system from a shutdown and not after a reboot.

If the problem seems to only happen after a shutdown, you might try disabling "fast startup" since this only affects the boot after a shutdown and not upon restart. See this tutorial for more information and how to disable fast startup:

Actually it only happens upon initial cold startup. A month ago it might take 2 reboots. Now it always goes away with 1 reboot. Might have something to do with radeon settings but W10 tells me all drivers are up to date.

    Thanks hsehestedt.

That is precisely what I was talking about. If the issue happens on cold startup (I used the term "starting the system from a shutdown" in my earlier post), then you should try disabling Fast Startup. Have you tried that yet?

    Welcome to Ten Forums.

Your HP 15-F11DX has a touchscreen. Do the 'water circles' look like this?

If so, that is what you see when visual feedback is turned on in Ease of Access and you touch the screen.

If it occurs without you touching the screen then that could be down to a 'false touch' caused by dirt on the touchscreen. That also makes the mouse very difficult to move. Twice now I've had all sorts of things opening unexpectedly on one of my touchscreen laptops, all fixed by cleaning its screen.
